The good ol’ Disney Channel era has left a mark on the lives of many children with its long-time kids’ programming. If you ask anyone, series like Hannah Montana and That’s So Raven are considered classics nowadays. Each year that passed, Disney Channel was able to deliver compelling storylines and meaningful relationships between its shows’ characters.
The network was first launched in 1983, giving kids famous movies such as Twitches, and series such as Boy Meets World, which was originally aired on ABC, but then acquired by Disney in the mid-’90s to show reruns on its regular programming. This list will honor the series that were perfect from start to finish. Some of these shows were so well-done that they have forged the pathway to fame for so many famous entertainment stars, such as Ross Lynch, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Hilary Duff (just to mention a few).
‘Phineas and Ferb’ (2007–Present)
Disney Channel has released various animated series over the years. Good examples can be Kim Possible and The Emperor’s New School, which gained huge popularity among kids in the 2000s. But the one that survived the test of time is definitely Phineas and Ferb. With over four seasons released between 2007 and 2015, this animated series is considered iconic by old and new generations alike. Because of its international demand, Phineas and Ferb was revived in 2025 with two new seasons, still ongoing.
The series follows the chaotic lives of two stepbrothers, Phineas Flynn (Vincent Martella) and Ferb Fletcher (Thomas Brodie-Sangster and David Errigo Jr.). The duo tries to occupy their time during the 104 days of summer vacation they have before returning to school. How do they do that? Well, they work on sophisticated and well-equipped projects, such as building an amusement park or bringing a mummy back to life with the latest technology. This series was widely acclaimed by critics and viewers alike, each episode being even more interesting and comedy-gold than the previous. This animated series even had a live tour, various movies, and merchandise released for fans! The musical moments in this show were golden… everyone remembers the famous lyric “I’ll get ya! And when I do, you are going to be busted.”
‘Lizzie McGuire’ (2001–2004)
“I’d rather work extra hard at something I do love, even if it takes a little longer.” Well said, Lizzie! One of the most famous early 2000s series, Lizzie McGuire, has impacted the personalities of so many teenagers, boys and girls alike. The main lead, 13-year-old Lizzie McGuire, is portrayed by the wonderful Hilary Duff. This was the breakout role for the famous actress and singer. It was able to resonate with people, brilliantly showcasing authentically how someone can get through adolescence and still keep themselves grounded. Furthermore, what made the show even more relatable was the fact that she had an animated version of herself monologuing about what all of us feel like when we talk to our own subconscious.
In this series, Lizzie shows viewers how to get through middle school in a simple way, showing the audience that you have to stay true to yourself during tough times, yet be able to learn life lessons along the way. She found support and help from her best friends, David “Gordo” Gordon (Adam Lamberg) and Miranda Sanchez (Lalaine). Furthermore, she even had a crush on the most popular guy in school, Ethan Craft (Clayton Snyder), and had her own rival, Kate Sanders (Ashlie Brillaut). We have all been there, and that is why Lizzie McGuire served its purpose as a comfort show for so many kids.
‘Sonny with a Chance’ (2009–2011)
Imagine being cast in a famous sketch comedy show in Hollywood! Basically, everyone’s biggest dream, am I right? That’s what happens to Sonny Munroe, portrayed by Demi Lovato, in Disney Channel’s Sonny With A Chance. This series is able to incorporate comedy, romance, and music all in one. Simply phenomenal, and every comedic one-liner is delivered brilliantly, which still lives rent-free in our minds today. Lovato’s performance in this show is fantastic, and she made us adore her character’s quirky personality from the first episode.
In this series, Sonny and her colleagues are always seen at the studios where the So Random! series is filmed. Each episode shows viewers their lives while filming at the studios, their troublesome friendships, and the continuous rivalry with the other series filming there, Mackenzie Falls, led by teen heartthrob Chad Dylan Cooper (Sterling Knight). Sonny and Chad were the characters that became iconic with 2000s kids and teenagers, as their enemies-to-lovers story is still one of the best ones ever written in a kids’ show.
‘The Suite Life of Zack & Cody’ (2005–2008)
Living in a hotel, no rent needs to be paid, and you have free food. That’s the dream life that we saw in the famous movie Eloise at the Plaza, and where two brothers live in the iconic series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. Viewers find this series hilarious, as the loyal relationship between real-life siblings Dylan Sprouse and Cole Sprouse makes the brotherly dynamic between their two characters, Zack and Cody, feel more authentic.
Furthermore, recurring characters were portrayed by now-famous entertainment stars such as Brenda Song, Ashley Tisdale (Yes, Sharpay Evans from High School Musical!), and many more. These were a few of the reasons that made the series gain its now-huge popularity. Today, viewers consider it an iconic series for all ages.
‘Violetta’ (2012–2015)
Disney Channel, alongside having an impressive catalog of TV series aired on the American network, raised its stakes in 2012 when the first Disney-branded Argentinian telenovela was released in Latin America for the first time. This was a bold move, but it gave the desired results. The series we are speaking about is the worldwide-famous Violetta, which aired for three seasons between 2012 and 2015. This series took over the world by storm. Despite never being released on the American network, Americans became fans of this series as well, creating petitions for this series to be aired here also (which never happened). Disney provided an English dub for this series and the songs for international fans to enjoy as well, but it was never released in America. However, Disney finally made the series available to view on Disney+ in 2020, with all three seasons complete with English dub and English subtitles as well.
This series tells the story of a teenager named Violetta Castillo, portrayed by Tini Stoessel, who transfers back to Buenos Aires with her dad, German Castillo (Diego Ramos). Violetta’s biggest passion has always been music, but her dad doesn’t give her permission to attend a music school, and gives her private lessons at home. Because of this, Violetta decides to become a student at a prestigious music academy named Studio On Beat, thanks to the help of her at-home tutor, Angie Carrara (Clara Alonso), without her dad knowing. At this academy, Violetta learns how to be a phenomenal singer and makes lots of friends, enemies… and falls in love for the first time. This show has fantastic songs, dances, love stories, and much more. So what are you waiting for? Begin watching Violetta, you won’t regret it.
‘Soy Luna’ (2016–Present)
Released a year after Violetta ended and going on for three seasons till 2018, Soy Luna is another one of the most-talked-about Argentine telenovelas on social media. This series is widely known around the world, despite being released on Disney+ for the first time in the States in 2020, just like Violetta, and now it is still available with English subtitles only. Because of its huge popularity and demand internationally, Disney+ greenlit a fourth season, and it will be released in July 2026 on Disney+ Latin America first, then all over the world.
Additionally, Soy Luna tells the story of Luna Valente, portrayed by the talented Karol Sevilla, a teenager who loves rollerblading and would love to become a famous international rollerblading competitor. She lives in Cancun, Mexico, as all she remembers about her childhood is being with her adoptive parents, Monica (Ana Carolina Valsagna), and Miguel Valente (David Muri), living in the mansion where the two work as chef and chauffeur for rich families. A rich family that stays at the mansion for a few days hires her adoptive parents to work in their mansion in Buenos Aires, Argentina, because they were impressed with their work ethic. Luna is forced to move, leaving her best friend, Simon Alvarez (Michel Ronda), behind. This series is perfect, truly. The songs, the adoption storyline, and the dynamics between the characters are all well-done, in a more mature kind of way. This series is even better than Violetta, in my opinion.
‘Austin & Ally’ (2011–2016)
A musician who loves to be on stage and a quirky yet introverted singer who has stage fright. A dynamic duo indeed. That’s what Austin & Ally is all about! This series showcased a phenomenal friends-to-lovers story for its time, and delivered hilarious storylines alongside it. Truly a show for all ages, as the songs are iconic, and the characters are truly relatable. This friend group stood the test of time, as many people still love this show today.
This series follows the story of Austin Moon (Ross Lynch), a talented teenager who dreams of becoming a famous singer, and meets Ally Dawson (Laura Marano), as they slowly become music partners. He sings the songs she writes for him, and that’s how they balance their partnership. They are supported by their friends Dez (Calum Worthy), who is the video director, and Trish (Raini Rodriguez), who is Austin’s manager. Together, they all get caught in the middle of hilarious adventures, as Austin’s career keeps soaring… and his chemistry with Ally develops as well. Truly a show that keeps you laughing at each episode, and gradually makes you develop a huge love for this friend group. This show is a comforting one for many.
‘That’s So Raven’ (2003–2007)
One of the most famous early 2000s Disney live-action shows, That’s So Raven became truly a quintessential series for children of all generations. Featuring a young Black woman as the main lead for the first time, Disney Channel was able to give representation for all young Black children at the time, and that’s phenomenal. The acting of Raven-Symoné as the lead character, Raven, was something that remained iconic throughout all these years. Her clever wit and relatable portrayal provided a great example for teenagers, no matter your ethnic background, teaching them that you have to stay true to yourself, despite being seen differently by everyone else, and it is okay to be different.
That’s So Raven tells the story of a teenager going through the ups and downs of high school, who also has a psychic ability she keeps secret. This often means getting into comical adventures with her best friends Chelsea (Anneliese van der Pol) and Eddie (Orlando Brown). The friendship also gave the viewers a healthy representation of a male and female friendship, which was nonexistent in series like these at the time. (There were only love triangles seen on TV to draw the attention of the young viewers). It’s one of the many reasons this series is a must-watch, from start to finish.
Wizards Of Waverly Place (2007–2012)
Magic and wands, something a kid always dreams of having. We got this with the Harry Potter movies in the early 2000s, and Disney created its own version during the same year, but set in New York. Wizards of Waverly Place gave rise to stardom to its main lead, Selena Gomez, now a famous singer and star of the hit Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building.
This series follows the life of teenage wizard-in-training Alex Russo (Gomez), alongside her brothers Justin (David Henrie) and Max (Jake T. Austin). They all live with their mom and dad in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City, where the family owns a fast food restaurant. Alex’s best friend is the quirky and loving Harper (Jennifer Stone), who always visits the family’s home and joins her on the family’s chaotic adventures. Wizards of Waverly Place delivers iconic moments (“We see through your funky hat!”), yet meaningful family moments that we hold dear in our hearts. Each episode has a well-written storyline, and Gomez’s portrayal makes her character memorable to many.
‘Hannah Montana’ (2006–2011)
Hannah Montana, the iconic Disney show excellence. This series changed the lives of many children and teenagers alike in the early 2000s. The iconic Miley Cyrus in the role of Miley Stewart, who is a teenager by day and pop star Hannah Montana at night, marked the history of Disney Channel. This series created a frenzy that can be compared to the Justin Bieber and One Direction fever of the 2010s, or the High School Musical movie in the same year as the show’s release. Everywhere you went, you could see Hannah merchandise and CDs being sold at many stores.
The series follows the life of Miley Stewart (Cyrus), as mentioned earlier, who is a celebrity in secret, and tries to get through the daily ups and downs that middle school gives to a normal teenager. But not without the help of her best friends, Lilly Truscott (Emily Osment) and Oliver Oken (Mitchel Musso), and her family, famous singer Robbie Ray Stewart (Billy Ray Cyrus), and hilarious brother Jackson Stewart (Jason Earles). There has never been another series quite as timeless as Hannah Montana, so if you haven’t watched it yet, go now on Disney+.
