Spoiler Alert: This list contains spoilers for the Euphoria series finale. It’s the end of an era with Season 3 of Euphoria. Five years have passed since Rue (Zendaya) found herself in a sticky situation. In the aftermath of Season 2, she has been living on the run, drifting from one small town to another until she finally settles in Los Angeles. But Rue has demons waiting for her, both old and new. And although she’s far more sober than she was in her teenage years, she’s unable to truly escape the drug world.
In true Sam Levinson fashion, Euphoria wouldn’t be the show it is without a few jaw-dropping moments. For better or worse, those shocking scenes often overshadow the show’s deeper intentions, yet they’re undeniably part of what makes Euphoria what it is. From smuggling drugs in painful places to the deaths of major characters, here are the most shocking moments of Euphoria Season 3, ranked.

Rue’s Debt Massively Increased
Episode 1 “Ándale”
Back in Season 2, Rue’s newfound drug lord acquaintance Laurie (Martha Kelly) fronts her $10,000 worth of drugs, all stored in a suitcase. However, things take a twist when a furious Leslie (Nika King) discovers the drugs and flushes them down the toilet, setting in motion what Rue is about to face in Season 3.
Stuck with a $10,000 debt, Rue escapes town, hoping to run away from what she owes. Rue gets lucky for the next five years, but while working at a smoke shop in Los Angeles, Laurie suddenly appears. Instead of $10,000, with a 20% monthly interest rate over the past 46 months, Rue’s debt has ballooned to $43 million. Luckily, Laurie’s gracious enough to settle for $100,000, which Rue now has to earn by working as a drug mule.

Cassie’s Baby Costume
Episode 2 “America My Dream”
Cassie’s (Sydney Sweeney) — sort of — about to be a star. After moving to Los Angeles, audiences learn that she’s been living with Nate (Jacob Elordi), although the two aren’t married yet. With their wedding coming up, Cassie turns to creating sexy online content to make some extra money. With Maddie’s (Alexa Demie) social media savvy, Cassie begins her OnlyFans journey.
Although the sex work is entirely Cassie’s personal choice, some of her creative decisions prove controversial. Cassie dresses up as just about anything, from wearing a dog costume to being draped in nothing but the American flag. However, her most controversial persona involves dressing up as a baby, complete with a pacifier in her mouth and her legs spread wide apart — a choice that teeters dangerously close to pedophilia.

Rue Is Buried up to Her Neck
Episode 5 “This Little Piggy”
Ever since Rue started working for Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), she has been in risky territory. Her jig is up when she is caught by the DEA. However, instead of turning her in, they offer her the chance to become an informant, and she accepts. However, Alamo is quick to notice her change in behavior.
When the Silver Slipper is robbed by two of Laurie’s henchmen, Alamo loses his cool. Alamo’s henchmen bring Rue to the edge of a cliff, where they instruct her to dig a hole. Little does she realize that it is meant for her, and they bury her in it up to her neck. Distrustful of Rue, Alamo rides toward her on his horse, ready to strike her head with a polo mallet, but he purposely misses.

Cassie Deletes Her OnlyFans Account
Episode 6 “Stand Still and See”
Maddy has been in manager mode ever since she got hold of Cassie. After doing a complete 180 on her social media presence, Maddy successfully transformed Cassie from a hot nobody into an OnlyFans superstar, helping her gain 50,000 followers in a short amount of time. As for Cassie, she is finally making more than enough money to pay off her mortgage, something Nate has not been able to do.
However, Cassie wants more. After getting a taste of mainstream Hollywood acting in L.A. Nights, she decides she wants to go legitimate. But that means deleting her OnlyFans account — the very one Maddy worked so hard to build. Naturally, this prompts Maddy to slap Cassie across the face.

Naz Cuts Off Nate’s Toe
Episode 3 “The Ballad of Paladin”
Cassie and Nate’s (Jacob Elordi) wedding night is rowdy for all the wrong reasons. Euphoria Season 3 sees Nate taking over his father’s real estate company, only to find that he’s barely making enough money. He’s practically net-zero, which pushes him to con investors out of their money. But the real risk comes when he fails to pay back loan shark Naz (Jack Topalian).
During their wedding reception, Naz shows up uninvited, approaching Nate under the pretense of being a guest. Cassie becomes anxiety-ridden throughout the wedding, especially since she has no idea about her husband’s financial woes. Things take a turn at home, where one of Naz’s henchmen suddenly strikes him and cuts off one of Nate’s toes as punishment.
5
Laurie Hangs Herself
Episode 8 “In God We Trust”
When the DEA obtains an incriminating phone recording of Laurie, agents immediately surround her compound. A complete SWAT team rushes to her compound, including dozens of police cars and even a helicopter. While everyone else attempts to flee, Laurie refuses to surrender.
Unwilling to face prison time, she climbs to the rooftop with a noose around her neck and jumps to her death. However, the DEA did not recover the narcotics they were searching for. Instead, they are left with a dead body rather than the drugs they had hoped to seize.

Nate Is Killed by a Snake
Episode 7 “Rain or Shine”
Although Cassie has been working hard to pay off Nate’s debt, it is apparently not enough to satisfy Naz. Running out of patience, Naz kidnaps Nate and buries him alive in a coffin. His situation becomes even more dire when a venomous rattlesnake is released above ground and slithers into the coffin through a narrow pipe, leaving him trapped with no way to escape.
Meanwhile, Maddy tries to save Cassie from Naz’s scheme by securing a cash bailout from Alamo. However, when they arrive, they discover that the bailout bag is empty. Taking advantage of Naz’s distraction, Alamo shoots him dead. In return for his help, Maddy becomes indebted to Alamo, who demands a 20% cut of all her enterprises. Tragically, Nate dies from the snakebite, rendering Maddy’s efforts futile.

Rue and Faye Swallow Bags of Fentanyl
Episode 1 “Ándale”
Part of Rue’s repayment job involves smuggling drugs from Mexico into the United States without attracting the attention of border patrol. Instead of hiding them in bags or taping them to their bodies, Rue is forced to swallow golf ball-sized packets of fentanyl using lubricant. Although she swallows them one by one, she’s ultimately forced to carry a dozen of them inside her body.
The risk is obvious. If even one packet ruptures inside her, she could die on the spot. Faye (Chloe Cherry) joins her on the run, but the trip is anything but pleasant. After they arrive at Laurie’s base, a severely sick Rue immediately poops out all the fentanyl packets into a colander.
2
Kitty Gets Brutally Assaulted
Episode 4 “Kitty Likes to Dance”
Euphoria‘s not afraid of pumping up the shock factor, but nothing is more disturbing than Kitty’s (Anna Van Patten) assault scene in Episode 4. The new dancer at the Silver Slipper strip club initially takes the opportunity with excitement. But things turn dark when Kitty is taken to a private room by a group of men.
Rue, who notices the interaction from afar, watches everything unfold on the club’s CCTV system. After snorting drugs, the men take turns having intercourse with Kitty, though she clearly looks uncomfortable. Worse still, one of them appears to penetrate her with a champagne bottle. When Rue meets Kitty in the bathroom afterward, the latter looks visibly distressed, but remains determined to stay because, as she puts it, “she loves to dance.”

Rue Dies on Ali’s Couch
Episode 8 “In God We Trust”
Rue has done nearly every substance imaginable and cheated death multiple times. But her luck finally runs out when she accidentally overdoses while staying at Ali’s (Colman Domingo) house. Earlier, she had been given a bottle of Percocet by Alamo. After testing the pills, Ali discovers that they are laced with fentanyl.
Rue’s death leaves Ali deeply disillusioned with his life’s work. Tired of watching people succumb to addiction and violence, he comes to believe that the drug problem can no longer be solved through peaceful means. Convinced that Alamo is the source of much of the suffering, Ali decides to take matters into his own hands, picking up a gun and confronting him at his strip club.
