Netflix is the streaming service for viewers who want to check out one of the world’s biggest new movies at the start of July, and there are plenty of other interesting new arrivals on the streamer for subscribers to have fun with. On last weekend’s Netflix movie recommendations, I suggested Minions: The Rise Of Gru, Little Brother, and Enola Holmes 2.
Two of those movies connect to entries on this weekend’s list. One of them directly, as part of the same franchise, and the other in terms of format. At the time of writing, two of the three movies on last weekend’s recommendations are trending on Netflix in the United States. John Cena’s Little Brother is Netflix’s most-watched movie in the US.
The Netflix Original movie is now succeeded by another such film on our weekend list. That said, the other movie that is currently trending on the streaming service’s charts is Minions: The Rise of Gru, which tracks, given the release of Minions & Monsters this Friday. Last time around, we had three movies of different genres for Netflix subscribers.
For the first weekend of July, our three options are once again varied in genre. The first weekend of every month is special for Netflix subscribers, as several new movies are released on the streamer on the first day of every new month. Based on that, subscribers better prepare for a weekend to remember with plenty of laughs, action, and emotion.

The Boss Baby (2017)
The Boss Baby is one of the movies that arrived on Netflix this Wednesday, July 1. The animated movie started a creative franchise that plays with a fresh concept — babies are actually much smarter than anyone thought, running Baby Corp. The Boss Baby boasts a star-studded cast, with names like Alec Baldwin, Tobey Maguire, Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy Kimmel, Steve Buscemi, and more.
The Boss Baby hinges on the chemistry between main characters Tim Templeton and his baby brother, Ted. Together, they must find a way to defeat Puppy Co, who is trying to replace babies with puppies on the adults’ love scale. The Boss Baby is funny, cute, has fluid animation, and succeeds as an exciting adventure for both kids and adults alike.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Next up is the only superhero film on the list, and it is one of the MCU’s most important movies. Tom Holland will soon return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. As such, Netflix subscribers should not miss the opportunity to watch his first film in the Spider-Man franchise, as Spider-Man: Homecoming has just arrived at the streamer.
Spider-Man: Homecoming introduced one of the MCU’s best villains, Michael Keaton’s Vulture, and his car scene with Holland’s Peter is still one of the franchise’s most frightening. The Spider-Man movie set up many of the key elements and relationships of Holland’s MCU trilogy, and it showcased just how perfect a Peter Parker and Spider-Man the actor was. Michael Mando debuted as Mac Gargan in the film, and he returns as Scorpion in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Enola Holmes 3 (2026)
Finally, the best movie for Netflix subscribers to watch on the streaming service in the first weekend of July has to be Enola Holmes 3. The project is the latest major Netflix Original movie, concluding Millie Bobby Brown’s Enola Holmes trilogy. For anyone who is a fan of Sherlock Holmes — the detective is played by The Witcher‘s Henry Cavill — or mysteries in general, this is a must-watch.
Enola Holmes 3 focuses on the kidnapping of Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes, which leads to Brown’s energetic detective making it her mission to find her brother and get him home safely. The fast-paced mystery is filled with charming performances, and it is the most romantic entry in the franchise, with Brown’s Enola and Louis Partridge’s Tewkesbury displaying palpable chemistry as they take a major step. Netflix subscribers will end the weekend on a thrill-ride with this one.
