Taylor Sheridan is best known as the Yellowstone writer, but the acclaimed Western scribe also has plenty of other notable writing credits in his filmography. He kicked off his career with movies like Sicario (starring Josh Brolin), Wind River (starring Elizabeth Olsen), and Hell or High Water (starring Jeff Bridges). It wasn’t until the debut season of Yellowstone in 2018 that he turned his attention to building his successful TV empire, and it wasn’t just with offshoots of the Kevin Costner-led series like 1883 and 1923. Sheridan also penned epic crime sagas like Mayor of Kingstown (featuring Jeremy Renner) and Tulsa King (led by Sylvester Stallone), and he topped it all off with Landman (starring Billy Bob Thornton), his new oil drama that’s aired two seasons already with another on the way.
However, one Sheridan-produced show that you may not be aware of is Lawmen: Bass Reeves, the eight-episode Western miniseries following one of the greatest frontier heroes of all time, who was also one of the first Black marshals west of the Mississippi River. The show was initially conceived as a Yellowstone spin-off before being reworked as its own standalone series. The show stars David Oyelowo in the lead role, and he’s surrounded by other major stars like Dennis Quaid, Barry Pepper, and the late Donald Sutherland. All episodes of Lawmen: Bass Reeves arrived on Paramount+ back in 2023, and while the show has been off the air for almost three years now, it’s still hanging around the top 10 in several countries. It’s becoming one of the most popular binges on Paramount+, not just for long-time Sheridan fans, but also for subscribers pining for something new to watch.

Taylor Sheridan’s Latest Hit Has Already Been Renewed
Taylor Sheridan has started the year strong with his new Yellowstone spin-off, Marshals, which follows Kaycee Dutton (played by Luke Grimes) now that he’s left the Yellowstone ranch behind. The show has earned strong viewership for Paramount already, and it was picked up for a second season after only the first episode had been released, which made sense, considering it was a record-breaking week. Sheridan also kicked off the year with another new Western series, The Madison, which co-stars Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer. The Madison was renewed for a second season months before a single episode of the show ever made it to Paramount+, and Season 2 could even premiere before the end of the year.
Check out all episodes of Lawmen: Bass Reeves on Paramount+ and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Sheridan’s future projects.
