The top five shows to watch on Prime Video this week, May 4–8, 2026, include a viral new true crime series, a modern adaptation of a classic bestseller, and the return of one of the platform’s most promising action franchises. In addition to top trending series such as Scarpetta and Young Sherlock, these original Prime Video series are all worth checking out right now for subscribers looking for something fresh, topical, and worthwhile.
From easy-to-binge thrillers to storied multi-season franchises, Prime Video has a wide variety of genres and formats set to keep all viewers satisfied. Last week, new series such as the animated show Kevin and the reality competition series American Gladiators made our list for must-watch Prime Video hits, and they remain great choices this week as well. That said, if you’re looking for the cutting edge of Prime Video content this week, there are few, if any, better shows to watch at this point in time than the following top five selections.
Killing Grounds: The Gilgo Beach Murders
One of the most popular and easy-to-binge new series on Prime Video currently is the true crime story Killing Grounds: The Gilgo Beach Murders. If you can’t get enough of true crime content, make sure you check out this 4-part series on Prime Video right now, which ranks #2 on the platform in documentary TV shows. Killing Grounds follows a series of murders that took place on Long Island, New York, from 1996 to 2011, and the years-long investigation that finally revealed a killer hiding in plain sight.
Earnhardt
Earnhardt is a must-watch for all sports lovers, whether you consider yourself a fan of motorsports or not. It depicts the remarkable true story of Dale Earnhardt and his son, Dale Earnhardt Jr., who both raced professionally as NASCAR drivers until a tragic event abruptly changed everything. Told over four episodes, this touching and engrossing docuseries is a 2026 Sports Emmy nominee and dives deep into the complex family dynamics of one of the most legendary sports families in recent memory.
The House Of The Spirits
The House of the Spirits is one of Prime Video’s most-watched new series right now, ranking #5 on its worldwide charts. Based on the celebrated 1982 novel of the same name by Isabel Allende, the series tells a century-spanning story about three generations of women in a tumultuous yet serene South American country. The House of the Spirits was adapted into a star-studded feature film in 1993, starring Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Jeremy Irons, and more, but the new Prime Video series has already received a more positive overall critical reception, as evidenced by its 89% Rotten Tomatoes score.
The Boys
With only weeks left until the series finale of The Boys, one of Prime Video’s most successful original series of all time, there’s no better time than now to dive into the acclaimed series if you haven’t already. Known for its punchy dark humor, comic book-style action, and its brutal combat scenes, The Boys has cemented itself as one of the 21st century’s most iconic streaming series and hopes to finish strong with its fifth and final season finale, set to drop on Prime Video on Wednesday, May 20.
Citadel
Citadel was initially billed as an enormous budding spy action franchise for Prime Video when it premiered in 2023, only to become critically panned with a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 51%. Citadel season 2 hopes to redeem season 1’s divisive debut with seven new episodes that arrive this Wednesday, May 6, four of which will be directed by Joe Russo of Avengers acclaim. Starring Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Stanley Tucci, Citadel season 2 could be one of the biggest surprise hit series on Prime Video this week if it can overcome its first-season woes.
