Summer is on its way, and if you’re looking to level up your grilling skills for the season, now’s a good time to invest in a gadget or two. I’ve already rounded up a selection of excellent smart BBQs, which do all the work for you, but here I’m focusing on grilling gadgets that work with your existing BBQ to deliver better results with less effort. Of course, Father’s Day is fast approaching, too — any of these would make a stellar gift for a grill master dad.
For cooking large joints of meat, a smart thermometer is a must-have. The most well-known on the market is probably the Meater. You poke the probe into your piece of meat, tell the app what kind of meat it is, and it’ll closely monitor the internal temperature as it cooks. It’ll alert you when it’s time to take it off the grill, and tell you when it’s finished resting and good to eat, too. An alternative is the Inkbird, which comes with probes to monitor both the temperature of the oven and the meat, and a magnetic, weatherproof display that snaps to the outside of your BBQ.
The Looftlighter is an electric fire-starter that blasts out hot air and can ignite wood or charcoal in under 60 seconds, without using chemicals or gas. A hot tip amongst current owners is that it’s also great for crisping up your crackling. Finally, there’s the TipTopTemp, an ultra-clever bit of kit that moderates the temperature in your BBQ with its thermostatic valve — it works using physics; no batteries required.
If you’re picking up something for Father’s Day and want to supplement your gadgety gift with an extra grill accessory, I’ve rounded up some well-reviewed options below, too. Happy BBQ season!
