6 Lingering Questions I Still Have After the ‘Euphoria’ Series Finale

[

Spoiler Alert: This list contains spoilers for the Euphoria series finale.Everyone literally comes crashing down in the Season 3 finale of Euphoria. Since its premiere in 2019, audiences have watched Rue’s (Zendaya) volatile highs and lows as a struggling drug addict. But even with every type of substance entering her bloodstream, Rue seems to have cheated death countless timesuntil it finally catches up to her in the finale.

The Season 3 ending is no shortage of twists and revelations. Rue’s death is the closing chapter to her tumultuous life, but there’s also the unsettled matter of her family, her friends, and even her former drug bosses. The finale tries to give as many answers as possible, but there are still a couple of things left unanswered. With a few loose ends, the fate of characters, and fan theories still in the air, here are the lingering questions I still have after the Euphoria series finale.

Why Did Bishop Betray Alamo?

Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) might rule the underworld with his iron fist, but his right-hand man, Bishop (Darrell Britt-Gibson), is just as deadly. When Rue first works at the Silver Slipper, Bishop is the first to be suspicious of her. However, instead of lashing out, Bishop prefers to observe the situation quietly before he makes a calculated judgment. When he does, it typically doesn’t end well for Rue — as seen from her many near-death incidents.

However, Bishop also has his surprises. Apart from getting a poodle — Maddy (Alexa Demie) thinks Bishop is more of a Doberman type — Bishop took all the bullets out of Alamo’s gun before giving it to him. This causes Alamo to lose the duel and get killed by Ali (Colman Domingo) — of course, only after Alamo turns to face Bishop and curses him out for betraying him. As for the reason behind the double-cross, Bishop doesn’t say why, but it may have been because Alamo unnecessarily killed Rue with fentanyl-laced Percocet.

How Does Leslie Cope with Rue’s Death?

Unlike the first two seasons of Euphoria, Leslie (Nika King) has a much more limited amount of screen time in Season 3. Although this reduced presence stems from certain creative choices, one of the overarching plots this season is Rue’s now-estranged relationship with her mother. After the volatile physical incident in Season 2, Rue flees the house in a panic when Leslie flushes her suitcase stash of drugs down the toilet, effectively leaving Rue with $100,000 worth of debt to Laurie (Martha Kelly).

However, Season 3 shows that Rue is still vulnerable enough to open up to her mother, even calling her at times to ask if she can come home. Rue realizes, however, that her mother doesn’t want her around Gia (Storm Reid), though she promises to stay clean. Leslie doesn’t seem to entirely hate Rue, even telling her, “I love you,” during her brief Episode 6 cameo when Rue tearfully calls her from a church after getting involved in a highway crash. Leslie may have expected the worst for Rue after these five years, but nothing prepares a mother for the death of her child, no matter how flawed that child may be.

Does Nate’s Family Know He’s Dead?

Nate (Jacob Elordi) messes up big time in Euphoria Season 3. Ever since Cal (Eric Dane) was arrested by the police, Nate has taken over his father’s real estate company. Unlike his father, Nate clearly has no idea how to run a business. The company is caught in a cycle of thousands of debts and stalled construction projects due to Nate’s inexperience. This pushes Nate to take loans from vulture loan sharks, including Naz (Jack Topalian).

Outside of business, Nate is still in touch with his family, including Cal — who is not imprisoned but is registered on the sex offenders registry. His family attends his wedding with Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), and his parents even give a toast, which implies that he is still close to them. However, when Nate is found dead and buried with a snake, it seems like Maddy and Cassie choose to keep it a secret instead of reporting to his family — first, out of fear that the two would be killed by Alamo, to whom they are now indebted, and second, because it would risk them getting caught by association with the police. But as seen earlier with Nate’s brother, who tried searching for Nate, there is a possibility that they might continue looking for him.

The Sorting Hat Speaks
Your House Has Been Chosen

After careful deliberation, the Sorting Hat has made its decision. This is the house your values, your instincts, and your particular way of being in the world were made for.

Gryffindor Tower · Scarlet & Gold

🦁 Gryffindor

You have nerve. Not the reckless kind, but the deep, quiet courage that shows up even when you’re terrified — especially then.

  • Gryffindors don’t act because they’re fearless — they act because they understand that some things are worth being afraid for.
  • You stand up for people when it would be easier to look away.
  • You charge toward what’s right even when the odds are terrible.
  • Harry, Hermione, Ron — the heroes of Hogwarts’s greatest chapter — all called the tower with the scarlet and gold home. And now, so do you.

Slytherin Dungeon · Emerald & Silver

🐍 Slytherin

You are driven, sharp, and utterly clear-eyed about what you want and how to get there.

  • Slytherin has long been misunderstood — painted as the house of villains when it is, at its best, the house of those who refuse to accept limits placed on them by others.
  • You are resourceful, strategic, and you play the long game.
  • You know your worth. You protect your own fiercely.
  • The dungeon common room with its view of the Black Lake is yours — and the ambitions that will take you further than anyone expects are yours too.

Hufflepuff Basement · Yellow & Black

🦡 Hufflepuff

You are the kind of person that makes the world genuinely better just by being in it.

  • Hufflepuff is not the “safe” house or the “leftover” house — it is the house of those with the greatest heart and the most unwavering integrity.
  • You show up. You work hard. You don’t need glory or recognition — you do what’s right because it’s right.
  • Your loyalty never wavers, even when tested.
  • Nymphadora Tonks, Cedric Diggory, Newt Scamander — some of the wizarding world’s finest. And now you join them.

Ravenclaw Tower · Blue & Bronze

🦅 Ravenclaw

Your mind is your greatest gift, and you’ve always known it.

  • Ravenclaws are the thinkers, the questioners, the ones who find a puzzle irresistible and a good book better company than most people.
  • Ravenclaw is not merely about intelligence — it’s about the love of learning, the pursuit of truth, and the rare courage to admit you don’t know something yet.
  • You see the world with unusual clarity and depth.
  • Luna Lovegood, Filius Flitwick, Rowena Ravenclaw herself — all extraordinary, all original. And so are you.

What Is the Meaning of Jules’ Painting?

Rue’s not the only person in Euphoria pursuing a new career path. Jules (Hunter Schafer) is also making money — by becoming a sugar baby. Before she found herself in this world, Jules was barely surviving on a $750/month allowance while studying in art school. But after her roommate shows her the perks of being a sugar baby, she drops out of school and spends all her time tending to her one and only client, the older, wealthier plastic surgeon Ellis (Sam Trammell).

Jules now spends most of her time divided between her painting area in the apartment and fulfilling Ellis’ needs. But when Rue pops up out of nowhere, Jules entertains the idea of rekindling their relationship for old times’ sake. However, no amount of nostalgia pulls Jules out of her now comfortable life for someone as unpredictable as Rue. Even so, after Rue’s death, Jules can’t help but grieve over her, even painting a portrait of Rue set against a fiery backdrop. With Jules’ true feelings for Rue left open to interpretation, some read this portrait as Rue being consumed by the fiery pits of hell, while others see it as a symbol of spiritual rebirth.

What Happened to Magick?

One of the most high-profile appearances in Euphoria Season 3 is Grammy-winning artist Rosalía, who plays strip club dancer Magick. It’s hard to miss Magick at the Silver Slipper with her bedazzled neck brace, which she keeps so she can win a lawsuit, despite management’s insistence that it kills the mood. Much of Magick’s appearance centers on her enthusiastically working at the club, but off-stage, she harbors reservations about Rue.

After Rue consoles Kitty (Anna Van Patten) in the bathroom, Magick becomes even more suspicious of Rue. Things escalate when Rue and Magick are held at gunpoint during a robbery, which pushes Magick to accuse Rue even more. However, Magick moves on to the next step when Maddy chooses her for Cassie’s content creation schemes, and she seems to prosper as a result. Unfortunately, unlike the other characters, Magick isn’t given closure, and the finale doesn’t explain what happens to her after Alamo dies.

Will Kitty Stay With Maddy?

As one of the newer club dancers at the Silver Slipper, Kitty sees her new job as an exciting opportunity. Sadly, she’s constantly pulled into one traumatic event after another. Euphoria is notorious for pushing the limits of explicit content, but nothing compares to Kitty’s brutal assault. Rue witnesses Kitty via CCTV being assaulted by a group of men in a private room, including one of them penetrating her with a champagne bottle.

Kitty is pulled into trauma once again when Ali barges into the club with his shotgun. Alamo specifically instructs her to check whether Ali has lowered his gun, and even asks her to bring him a bottle of champagne and be the one to roll it across the bar table during their shootout. After Alamo’s death, Kitty is seen following Maddy — whom Bishop offers to bring home. It seems like Kitty might be done with the club and might instead help Maddy with her business.
