It’s been a long time coming, but this year, the wait for Grand Theft Auto VI will come to an end. Rockstar Games will unleash its next-gen title on fans in November, bringing Grand Theft Auto to the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. The game will go live after a painstaking wait as fans have been begging for a new GTA entry since 2013. And given the game’s leaks, Grand Theft Auto VI has a lot to live up to.
Expectations are higher than ever, and GTA leaks are only fueling fervor for the game. Some of these rumors, however, aren’t filling fans with hope. A few of the title’s top leaks are downright worrisome, so we’ve collected eight Grand Theft Auto VI leaks that will straight up ruin the game if they are actually true.
A Note on Nudity & Sexual Content
Grand Theft Auto is known as one of the most controversial franchises in gaming and rightly so. Following its debut in 1997, the action-adventure RPG has pushed every boundary under the sun. From drug busts to gang beat-downs, the series doesn’t shy away from mature themes, and that includes sexual content. But when Grand Theft Auto VI goes live, things like nudity and sex will reportedly be toned down.
Rockstar Games is big enough to weather most controversies Grand Theft Auto VI could throw at it, but you cannot blame the company for being cautious when it comes to sex. In 2004, Grand Theft Auto was nearly axed entirely when the modding community discovered a hidden mini-game in San Andreas. The game allowed fans to control Carl Johnson during sexual intercourse with his girlfriend, pushing the game’s mature rating to the brink. From legal backlash to class-action lawsuits, the sexually explicit mod stained Grand Theft Auto‘s reputation for years, so it isn’t hard to see why Grand Theft Auto VI may be a bit more conservative when it launches.
The Death of Dual Wielding
Grand Theft Auto loves few things more than violence. The game is known for its arsenal of weapons, from machine guns to grenade launchers and every semi-automatic under the sun. With Grand Theft Auto VI on the horizon, fans were led to believe early in development that dual-wielding would be added to the game following the success of Red Dead Redemption 2. But in 2026, leaks left fans disappointed as they suggested dual-wielding was no longer planned for the upcoming release.
According to recent leaks, Rockstar Games did play with the addition of dual-wielding in Grand Theft Auto VI, but the feature has experienced hiccups. If the feature is even added, it may be limited to specific weapons or expanded skill trees. While GTA fans hoped to see dual-wielding available as a default skill, an unlockable ability to dual-wield would be well worth the effort so long as it exists in-game at all.
Exclusive Console Fears
Grand Theft Auto VI has been in the works for years now. The team at Rockstar Games is taking its time with the title to make sure expectations are met, but this pace is a double-edged blade. While the wait means Grand Theft Auto VI has more time to undergo polishing, it is also racing against the lifespan of the very consoles it’ll be released on. And following its most recent delay, leaks have suggested Grand Theft Auto may lock some technical features behind specific platforms.
If the leaks are right, Grand Theft Auto VI will likely reserve its best graphics and FPS rates for mid-generation consoles like the PS5 Pro. Should this be the case, then players with original-generation consoles will not be able to experience the full scope of Grand Theft Auto VI.
Realism at All Costs
With the countdown ticking down on Grand Theft Auto VI, it seems more leaks are going live these days than ever before. Many of the notes detail quality-of-life additions to the game, but not all the features noted are good for fans. For instance, several leaks suggest GTA will embrace realism more than ever before with its next title, but these additions will come at a cost.
According to leaks, Grand Theft Auto VI will feature realistic reputation meters that monitor your character’s friendships. This bar will add depth to the series as players will need to monitor their status with friends (and foes) to progress, but fans worry the addition will soft-lock content if their character is not on good terms with NPCs and such. Beyond the game’s social realism, the leaks also suggest combat is getting a big makeover, including gun jams and hand-to-hand stumbling. While these setbacks are all incredibly realistic, fans are admittedly worried the hurdles will upset Grand Theft Auto’s famously chaotic action sequences.
A Shorter Main Story
If there is one thing Rockstar Games is good at, it is storytelling. Titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 are revered for their masterful plot, and the developer’s best stories are often expansive. When Grand Theft Auto VI was first announced, fans were hopeful the entry would follow up with a sweeping story, but current leaks suggest the upcoming title isn’t going all-in with its story.
If current insiders are right, Rockstar Games is expected to strike middle ground with Grand Theft Auto VI. The game will not feature a main story as long as Red Dead Redemption 2, but it will be longer than Grand Theft Auto V. At this time, estimates for the game’s main story range from 40 to 50 hours total. But before you start rioting, keep this in mind: this total doesn’t account for any side quests or post-game content.
Say Goodbye to Prone Combat
Grand Theft Auto is a lot of things, but shy is not one of them. The series is abrasive, violent, and happy to get in your face. When it comes to stealth, GTA isn’t the first game you think of given its flashy combat, but fans were convinced that would change with Grand Theft Auto VI. Some of the title’s first leaks teased the addition of prone combat, but new rumors say this feature has sadly been cut.
The whole rumor began in 2022 when leaked footage of Grand Theft Auto VI showed one of the game’s main characters prone in combat, crawling around the battlefield. This leak gave fans hope enhanced stealth was coming to the series, but recent notes from insiders suggest prone combat is no longer part of the game. While crouching is still a part of GTA, the franchise is reportedly scaling back on enhanced stealth features, stripping gamers of a strategy they were hoping to test out in Grand Theft Auto VI.
Restricted Inventory System
There is a rule universally acknowledged in Grand Theft Auto: If you can pick it up, it will go in your inventory. To date, the franchise has encouraged sticky fingers as players tend to hoard everything from ammo to stolen goods. The inventory space in GTA has mostly accommodated its players’ pack rat tendencies, but current leaks suggest that freedom is a thing of the past. RIP.
If the leak ends up playing out, Grand Theft Auto VI will have a highly restricted inventory space. There will be no more infinite arsenals on hand for players as they will be limited to 3 to 4 weapons at any time. As for consumables and trinkets, item slots will be dedicated and limited for them unless you’ve got some sort of duffle bag on hand. And if you want to swap out your on-hand weapons, you will need access to your vehicle as the leaks suggest additional guns will be kept safe in your trunk.
The Final Boss: Monetization
Grand Theft Auto has been around since the late ’90s, but it is hardly stuck in the past. Rockstar Games is a genius at rebranding the title for modern audiences, and while players mostly love these makeovers, they do have some major concerns. Of all the leaks surrounding the company’s release of Grand Theft Auto VI, none have gamers more concerned than speculation on the game’s monetization methods.
After all, the year is 2026, and just about every major game developer makes way for additional monetization. The game’s initial cost is just the beginning, whether we like it or not. Currently, a number of Grand Theft Auto VI leaks suggest Rockstar Games’ premium service GTA+ will play a major role in the game. From early access to content and exclusive skins, the service will be a boon to hardcore players, but it will all come at a cost.
Other leaks surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI suggest online play may be at a premium if access is tied to GTA+. Not to mention all the speculation on whether the game will have its own battle pass. In the same way Red Dead Online has its own Outlaw Pass, fans are nervous Rockstar Games will create a similar pass for Grand Theft Auto VI. But for now, no official word has been given on the game’s official monetization ecosystem.
