- AMC will cut movie ticket prices by 50% on Wednesdays. The promotion, which is open-ended, will begin on July 9. An existing promotion, which discounts tickets on Tuesdays, will remain in effect.
Getting people back to the movie theater has been a challenge since the pandemic. AMC Theaters is hoping cheap tickets will do the trick.
The chain will offer 50% off on adult movie tickets every Wednesday this summer beginning July 9. To get that discount, you’ll need to be a member of the AMC Stubs rewards program. (The discounts will apply to full-price and matinee screenings.)
That’ll be the second night AMC offers cheaper seats to Stubs members. It currently offers a discount on Tuesdays, which is says will continue. The company says that has become one of the most-attended nights of the week as people look to cut costs.
“Realistically, we could not afford to have made this change to our ticket pricing strategy until the box office showed true signs of sustained recovery,” said CEO Adam Aron in a statement. “But in April and now in May, the box office has been booming, and the remainder of 2025 appears poised to continue that upward box office trend.”
The 50% discount applies to the base ticket. Extra charges for premium formats such as IMAX and 3D are on top of the base price.
AMC did not say how long the promotion would run, but hinted it could be a permanent addition to the chain.
“While certain movies and holiday time periods may be excluded from the ‘50% Off Wednesdays’ program, it is envisioned that if successful, this new AMC pricing initiative will be almost universally available at all AMC Theatres in the United States going forward,” it said.
The company, which is a meme stock, has seen share prices stay relatively flat for the past 18 months. Shares now trade in the $3 range, a far, far cry from the $261 they hit in June of 2021.
