Before I tested the Dreo TurboPoly Fan 508s, I had never heard of an air circulator. I discovered that an air circulator can maximize the cool or hot air from your air-conditioner or heater and move it around the room, cooling or heating every inch of the space more thoroughly. I’ve tested some of the best fans on the market, but none of them can do that.
As someone who lives in a 105-year-old house, I struggle to keep my home cool in the summer and warm in the winter due to a lack of insulation, high ceilings, and heating and cooling units that are smaller than my house requires. I’d never considered an air circulator until I tested the Dreo TurboPoly Fan 508s, and the results were astounding.
The Dreo TurboPoly Fan 508s is white in color and looks like a regular pedestal fan. However, the head of the fan is much more flexible than it appears. It can tilt horizontally and vertically up to 120 degrees, allowing it to move the air from the top of the room to the bottom and from one side to the other, consistently and quickly.
Since I tested the Dreo TurboPoly Fan 508s in the middle of a Texas summer, the air circulator moved the cool air from my air-conditioner around the room. Thanks to the Dreo app and the fan’s ability to measure temperature in a room, I could actually monitor how the fan’s circulation reduced the room’s temperature minute by minute.
Astoundingly, the Dreo TurboPoly Fan 508s reduced the temperature of my living room by five degrees Fahrenheit in less than 10 minutes, and then by a total of 10 degrees Fahrenheit in 45 minutes.
I don’t have the money to buy a second air-conditioning system, but with the Dreo TurboPoly Fan 508s, I don’t need to. In fact, I can keep my A/C unit at 77F and use the air circulator to cool whatever room I’m in by 10 degrees Fahrenheit in less than an hour.
As I was writing this in my dining room, I turned on the air circulator. Even though it is located in my bedroom next door, within a few minutes, I could feel cool air from my bedroom moving into the dining room and cooling the room down. So, the air circulating capabilities aren’t limited to a single room, as long as the doors between rooms are kept open.
Modes and controls
There is a lot more to love about the Dreo TurboPoly Fan 508s than its air circulation abilities. I can control the fan with a remote, buttons on the fan itself, and through voice command capability with Alexa or Google Assistant. However, I prefer using the app to control the fan.
For one, I can’t be bothered to get up and grab the remote or touch the buttons on the fan. And two – not every setting can be adjusted with a voice command. To even use voice commands, I must remember specific ways to phrase the commands or else it won’t work. The app, then, becomes the most convenient method for me to control the Dreo TurboPoly Fan 508s.
The fan speeds of the Dreo TurboPoly Fan 508s can be adjusted between 1-9 on Normal mode. Turbo mode is the highest speed available, while Auto mode adjusts the fan’s speed automatically to cool down a room. On Sleep mode, the fan speed decreases once every 30 minutes and stops after the second decrease.
My favorite mode – beyond just Normal and Turbo, which I use most often – is the Natural mode. This mimics the properties of wind and breezes, making me feel like I’m outside when I’m indoors.
The Dreo TurboPoly Fan 508s has a built-in light that essentially turns the product into a night light. In fact, I can choose which color I want the light to be and whether it remains constantly lit, pulsates, or switches colors. I’m quite comfortable moving around my house in the dark, but guests have conveyed how much they appreciate the fan’s light because it prevents them from running into furniture on their way to the bathroom at night.
I’m not always able to keep the products that I review, but I plan to hang on to the Dreo TurboPoly Fan 508s for as long as I possibly can. This is the first time in five years that I haven’t had to turn down my A/C at night by a few degrees, just to sleep comfortably – and I have the air circulator to thank for that. Not only am I staying cool in my home, but it’s saving me quite a bit on my electric bill. As winter approaches, I’m excited to utilize the air circulator with my heater and enjoy even more savings.
