I cover phone deals for a living – here’s why you should keep an eye on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 this Black Friday

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the best foldable Samsung has ever made – in fact, it’s the best foldable phone money can buy. The seventh generation of Samsung’s pioneering folding phone is thinner, lighter, and more powerful than ever, while continuing the traditional two-in-one form factor as previous generations.

As we lead up to November, I’m hoping the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can continue another tradition: great Black Friday deals. Last year we saw the Galaxy Z Fold 6 slashed by up to $1,500 in the US and £550 in the UK, each amongst the best discounts in either region.

And back in 2023, we saw great discounts on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 from a variety of retailers during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

There are some trade-in deals available for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 at the minute, but I’d recommend waiting for Black Friday if you’re considering buying one, as we’re likely to see the best prices once sales get underway.

It’s also got the best camera system on any folding phone, with a spectacular 200MP main sensor, a 10MP 3x telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera.

Though the current landscape points to a high chance of great discounts for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, there are some caveats to consider.

The first is that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 costs more than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or Galaxy Z Fold 5 did at launch. At a starting price of $1,999.99 / £1,799 / AU$2,899, it’s the most expensive smartphone that isn’t region-locked to China.

This could go either way, really: we could see more modest discounts to reflect the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s higher starting price tag, or we could see equivalent discounted prices to years gone past as retailers bid for customer attention.

And as we’re just talking about predictions here, there’s no guarantee that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will see any kind of discount from either Samsung or any third-party retailers – but I’d personally be surprised if this turns out to be the case.
