I’ve been hunting for cool, affordable gadgets that would make good holiday gifts, and I think I might have just found the perfect thing. This Switchbot Candle Warmer lamp is a smart way to bring coziness to your home. It acts like a lamp – emitting a warm glow – but you can also pop a scented candle underneath and it’ll gently melt it to release its fragrance, without the worry of a naked flame and without creating any smoke.
It’s available in the US, UK and EU. There’s a deal on in the US that takes it down to a pleasingly affordable $32 at SwitchBot (was $39.99). I haven’t spotted any offers elsewhere yet, but some might yet crop up before the Christmas buying season is over.
Electric candle melters apparently aren’t a new idea, although I’d never seen one before. What sets this SwitchBot one apart is that it’s smart-home compatible. You can adjust the brightness of the lamp and the intensity of the fragrance, and you can set a timer for how long it’s on. (This especially appeals to me, because I have a habit of forgetting to blow my candles out, which aside from being dangerous is also slightly heart-breaking if said candle happens to be expensive or a favorite.)
It’s possible to schedule the light and melter for certain times, so you could set it up to come on before you come home in the evening, so you return to a room filled with scent and a gentle glow. Because there’s no flame, you don’t need to worry about it being on unattended.
The SwitchBot Candle Warmer Lamp is Matter-compatible, and can be hooked up to everything from Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings and more. And it should fit pretty much any candle, bar those multi-wick style ones that are the size of a tree stump.
