- NordVPN partners with CrowdStrike to boost its Threat Protection suite
- CrowdStrike brings an adversarial approach to combating cyber attacks
- The two cybersecurity giants broaden the alliance they signed last month
As Valentine’s Day approaches, some relationships grow stronger.
One such match made in heaven is the partnership between NordVPN and CrowdStrike, which have announced that they are strengthening their collaboration to integrate enterprise-grade business intelligence into consumer security.
Specifically, our best-rated VPN provider is beefing up its Threat Protection Pro anti-malware and phishing suite with CrowdStrike’s Threat Intelligence, making the level of security currently trusted by governments and businesses directly available to the millions of consumers who rely on NordVPN.
The agreement builds on the pact signed last month by the two cybersecurity giants. In January, they announced the integration of CrowdStrike’s Falcon Go and Falcon Enterprise tools into Nord Security’s NordLayer network security platform to help small and medium-sized businesses tackle the critical threats they face.
“Cybersecurity is an adversary problem”
The approach adopted by the two cybersecurity experts can be summed up with the motto “keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” Through the loyal alliance, the two giants are keeping an eye on their foes, closely monitoring emerging threats.
This is where CrowdStrike’s superior threat analysis capabilities come into play. The new suite of tools integrated into Threat Protection Pro includes CrowdStrike Counter Adversary Operations, which draws on CrowdStrike’s intelligence and threat hunting team to counter active digital adversaries.
Its real-time, AI-powered threat intelligence provides detailed insights into adversary behaviour, tracking over 265 of the most sophisticated hacker groups, cybercriminals and cyber operations worldwide to dissect their motives and tactics.
CrowdStrike’s threat indicators and metadata are aggregated and compared by NordVPN against threats detected within its environment, helping to identify and prevent cyber threats hidden in its users’ networks. This helps detect malicious actors that might have slipped past initial security defences for faster, preventive threat detection.
Additionally, continuous real-time updates provide constant feedback on global adversary intelligence, giving NordVPN real-time visibility into hostile activity related to its environment and ensuring users are constantly protected without compromising speed or privacy.
Daniel Bernard, chief commercial officer at CrowdStrike, points out that traditional threat intelligence is no longer sufficient. “Cybersecurity isn’t a malware problem – it’s an adversary problem,” he explains.
Why it matters for NordVPN users
This mindset becomes particularly crucial as malicious websites, phishing attempts, malware, and trackers are increasingly being perpetrated by the same adversaries who target both businesses and consumers.
“We are bringing the same adversary insights that protect enterprises and governments to millions of consumers and raising the bar for what consumer security should deliver,” Bernard adds.
Marijus Briedis, CTO of NordVPN, stresses that reliable intelligence is now crucial to boosting users’ protection. “Bringing that intelligence into Threat Protection Pro gives our users an immediate and powerful level of defence, helping them stay ahead of threats without compromising speed or privacy.”
With coverage in 178 locations across 129 countries worldwide, the NordVPN security tool already offers rock-solid protection that blocks malicious websites, trackers, and advertisements, as well as scans downloads for malware.
It’s one of NordVPN’s flagship features, constantly reaffirming its stellar security capabilities by blocking 90% and 92% of malicious websites in different rounds of testing by AV-Comparatives. It also recently strengthened its anti-phishing feature, including a new feature that boosts email protection by scanning links for phishing threats.
The collaboration with CrowdStrike, however, brings the focus on anticipation, enabling the security suite to preempt attacks rather than simply react as they occur.
As they expand their collaboration, the two experts continue to choose each other, in what looks like a natural pairing. As Bernard simply puts it: “When a category-defining brand like NordVPN selects CrowdStrike, it reinforces a simple truth: the best trust the best.”
