While those in the US have been watching the new crime thriller Memory of a Killer on Fox since the beginning of the month, the rest of us have been patiently waiting – thankfully, you can now find all episodes streaming on Prime Video.
Patrick Dempsey stars as Angelo, a hit man who lives a double life pretending to be a copier salesman in front of his family. He’s compartmentalized the two lives for years, but now he’s got a new problem — Alzheimer’s, something his brother has already lost his memory to.
‘Nobody’s really seen me this way… that can be really frustrating’
“She’s still in Seattle… I don’t think there’s any chance,” Dempsey says to the Grey’s Anatomy fan theories. “I think people really still love that show, and people really rooted for that relationship. They invested so much in it, and I think it’s still very much alive, and it’s constantly being rediscovered, which is a beautiful thing, and I’m grateful for that.
“I say this a lot, and I hope people don’t get tired of it, but I think the best thing that’s come out of Grey’s is that people have gone into the medical profession. Because it’s been on for 92 years now, they’ve gone through medical school, and they are out actually practicing medicine. And in that, I think is a tremendous win.”
The love Dempsey has for his time on the hit ABC show has clearly never faded in the two decades since he started, but there’s also a positive to putting Dr. Derek Shepherd to one side.
“I’ve always been fortunate to be an actor and to be able to pay the bills and to do it. But I started off with romantic comedies. We’re playing romantic characters in Grey’s, and people really never really saw me in this way, and that can be a bit frustrating,” Dempsey adds about playing Angelo.
“I have elements of all those things, but there’s also other darker sides and other parts of my personality and other things that I would like to try as an actor, to stretch into and to challenge myself and to feel uncomfortable. I think my racing career has really taught me about being uncomfortable. And I think as an actor, when you have a role or you read something and it makes you feel that way, that’s something you should go and do.”
And look what that decision has given us. If you ask me, there’s easily enough scope for Memory of a Killer season 2, so watch this space.
