Shark’s new robovac has a UV light to make your grubby floors glow — before scrubbing them clean again

    • Shark has announced a new robot vacuum and mop: the PowerDetect UV Reveal
    • It’s kitted out with a UV light and an RGB camera to seek out invisible dirt
    • Then, a deliberate scrubbing motion is activated to clear the mess

Shark has come up with an innovative way of showing customers exactly how well its new robot vacuum cleaner is working. The newly announced PowerDetect UV Reveal is fitted with an ultraviolet light, which works alongside an RGB camera to spot and highlight invisible messes, before cleaning them away.

Shark says the idea is to provide “insight into what is happening at every step of the cleaning process”. There are lights that indicate the robot is seeking a stain, then the UV will kick in to illuminate the mess. Shark lists dried-on liquids, juices, food splatters, sweat, and pet accidents as examples of things the PowerDetect UV Reveal can spot.

Once a hidden spill has been identified, the robot vacuum kicks into ‘HyperSonic Mopping’ mode, where it will scrub the floor with a deliberate motion, before verifying the dirt is gone before moving on.

“We heard from consumers with robot vacuums that they were never sure if the job was done or what had been cleaned,” says Andy Sundberg, VP of Marketing at SharkNinja. “That’s why we created PowerDetect UV Reveal. By uncovering hidden messes and showing exactly how they’re cleaned, it gives customers the visibility and assurance that their floors don’t just look clean — they are clean.”

Elsewhere, the PowerDetect UV Reveal boasts ‘NeuroNav AI’ navigation and ‘NeverStuck Technology’, designed to allow it to move confidently, intelligently and accurately around your home, without getting lost or trapped. It can run for up to three hours per charge.
