Looking for a different day?
A new NYT Strands puzzle appears at midnight each day for your time zone – which means that some people are always playing ‘today’s game’ while others are playing ‘yesterday’s’. If you’re looking for Wednesday’s puzzle instead then click here: NYT Strands hints and answers for Wednesday, March 4 (game #731).
Strands is the NYT’s latest word game after the likes of Wordle, Spelling Bee and Connections – and it’s great fun. It can be difficult, though, so read on for my Strands hints.

NYT Strands today (game #732) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #732, are…
- PUNY
- MEAGER
- PALTRY
- SCANT
- PIDDLING
- NEGLIGIBLE
- SPANGRAM: GEETHANKS
- My rating: Hard
- My score: Fail (sort of)
I can’t help but feel that on some days the Strands Spangram is a bit of an afterthought. The concept today was essentially ‘small amounts’, but GEETHANKS is a bit of a stretch as a phrase that describes the theme.
Anyway, I needed a hint to get started today, but once I had PUNY it was fairly obvious what was going on and I set about finding these SCANT and MEAGER words. The problem was that these kind of puzzles are hard — give me a Strands that involves me thinking of words associated with basketball or birthday cakes or dogs or doors and I’ll be fine; give me one that essentially requires the use of a thesaurus and I’m just not that interested.
To make matters worse, NEGLIGIBLE is essentially a near-impossible word to spot when jumbled up. So I cheated and used an anagram solver because frankly, life’s too short to spend it in this way. Maybe I’m just in a bad mood today…
Yesterday’s NYT Strands answers (Wednesday, March 4, game #731)
- SUGAR
- FLOUR
- VANILLA
- CANDLES
- FROSTING
- COCOA
- SPANGRAM: BAKINGAISLE
