That movie is Primitive War, a 2025 historical dinosaur thriller that takes place during the Vietnam War. The film, which is based on Ethan Pettus’ 2017 novel of the same name, follows a group of soldiers in 1968 Vietnam as they’re tasked with discovering the whereabouts of a Green Beret platoon that disappeared in the jungle while on a classified mission.

However, things go awry for the team almost immediately when they discover a plethora of de-extinct dinosaurs in the area. As they fight for survival, they also attempt to learn why dinosaurs have been brought back from the dead. While reviews for Primitive War have been mixed from critics, audiences have found lots of favor with the film and its premise.

Now, FlixPatrol reports that, as of Monday, April 6, 2026, Primitive War is the Number 3 movie on Hulu in the United States. This puts the film above major blockbusters like The Beekeeper and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, while placing it behind just two Hulu original releases: Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice and Pizza Movie.

The movie is also Number 10 on Hulu overall, beating out popular TV shows like Will Trent and Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bassette. This is reflected by audience reception on places like Rotten Tomatoes, where it holds an 86% based on over 250 verified user reviews. But this level of success is just the start of what might be the beginning of something much bigger.

Primitive War Is The Start Of A New Dinosaur Franchise

Primitive War earned $1.2 million against a $7 million at the box office.
