It’s been nearly a year since it was announced that A24 will be producing a live-action adaptation of the video game, Elden Ring. Tied to the project is Civil War and Ex Machina director Alex Garland. There hasn’t been much news about its development, as no cast members have been announced or a release date. But that changes now as there has been an update over the weekend. For those who have yet to play the game, Elden Ring is an award-winning action role-playing game from FromSoftware, where players explore the Lands Between as they face foes to collect a shard called a “Great Rune” that, when combined with a form, restores the Elden Ring.
Elden Ring holds a 96 on Metacritic and has won numerous accolades, including “Game of the Year” at the 2022 Game Awards, “Ultimate Game of the Year” at the Golden Joystick Awards, and “Game of the Year” at the Steam Awards, to name a few. Considering that the author behind Game of Thrones is tied to Elden Ring as George R.R. Martin served as the worldbuilding writer for the video game, it’s no surprise that an adaptation featuring Martin’s writing chops was going to happen eventually, especially when the author has endorsed the project.
Over the weekend, TikTok user @throxrtv posted a video featuring the set of the Elden Ring live-action movie, spotted in England. The set seems to be a construction of the Church of Marika. The user posted additional footage from the upcoming film’s set, which features more statues, barrels, and carts, among other things. This shows that A24 is working hard to bring this video game to life, and it won’t be long before a casting announcement or release date is revealed.

‘Elden Ring’ Isn’t The Only Big Fantasy Adaptation in The Works
Hollywood can’t get enough of adapting popular video games. Following the success of The Super Mario Movie, The Last of Us, and Fallout, the industry has been looking to adapt these titles to film or TV. And it’s not just Elden Ring that Hollywood is eyeing for potential fantasy video game adaptations. HBO revealed its plans to adapt Baldur’s Gate 3, an award-winning RPG, into a TV series, with Craig Mazin listed as showrunner. It was also reported that the project had tapped former Wizards of the Coast Head of Story Chris Perkins, but reportedly, no one at Larian Studios is involved in any capacity.
