12 Biggest Easter Eggs And MCU References in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 4

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 continues to prove itself as one of the best MCU shows of all time. Not only is it full of exciting action and dynamic characters, but it’s also got some great Easter eggs and references, both to the comics and the greater MCU at large.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4 is no exception, featuring a solid number of ties to the page and nods to the previous Netflix era of Marvel shows. Not only are there some pretty deep cuts across the board, but there are also some fun parallels to be made.

Whether it’s some key dialogue or the most subtle of ties to Netflix’s prior Daredevil series, here are the biggest and best Easter eggs we found in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4.

Blue Marvel Television Logo in Daredevil Born Again Season 2 Episode 4

Rather than the typical red, the Marvel Studios logo instead has a blue background for this Bullseye-focused episode, tying to Born Again’s frequent blue lighting saturation during major Bullseye scenes.

Bel Aire Diner In Queens

Bullseye At Bel Aire Diner in Daredevil Born Again Season 2 Episode 4

Bullseye enters the Bel Aire Diner which is a real-life restaurant in Queens. Seeing as how this is the MCU, it’s fun to imagine Spider-Man swinging by at some point, or perhaps he has even been inside before.

Bullseye’s Banana Milkshake

Bullseye's Banana Milkshake in Daredevil Born Again Season 2 Episode 4

Bullseye ordering a banana milkshake at the diner can’t be a coincidence. After all, his apartment in Netflix’s Daredevil Season 3 featured banana-flavored protein powder in his kitchen, making this milkshake a wild deep cut for a show that was originally not going to connect to the Netflix era at all before the first season’s major creative overhaul. All things considered, it’s a pretty wild full-circle callback.

“I Just Saw Frank Castle…”

Just like Mayor Fisk’s war on vigilantes in the comics and in Daredevil: Born Again season 1, where the former Kingpin used The Punisher’s violence to help justify his war on all vigilantes, Frank Castle’s name is used by Poindexter to get the AVTF to the diner in seconds.

Overall, it’s a pretty nice consolation to be getting so many references to Frank Castle in light of The Punisher’s notable absence in Daredevil: Born Again season 2.

After all, The Punisher will be having quite the year once this new season of Daredevil: Born Again ends with the release of the Disney+ special Punisher: One Last Kill the week after Born Again’s season 2’s finale, as well as his confirmed role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day releasing July 31st, making his MCU big screen debut just like Matt Murdock had with 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

“One of The Good Guys” (Bullseye As Hawkeye)

Calling himself “one of the good guys” following the absolute bloody carnage he created in the diner by killing all the AVTF agents, Bullseye’s misguided and twisted attempt to fight on the side of the angels is not unlike in the comics when he was a member of the Thunderbolts during the original Civil War event, and then subsequently posed as Hawkeye on Norman Osborn’s team of Dark Avengers following the events of Secret Invasion.

While Bullseye was never fully redeemed in the comics per se, it looks as though the MCU is going to feature a similar arc where Bullseye’s idea of being on “Daredevil’s side” is going to be just as violent and dangerous as fighting against the Man Without Fear.

Power & Responsibility (White Tiger)

White Tiger Angela in Daredevil Born Again Season 2 Episode 4

Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4 sees Matt Murdock asking Angela Del Toro if she understands the “responsibility” that comes with wearing her uncle’s amulet, and if she’s truly ready to become the new White Tiger. It’s a truly great scene, while also proving that a live-action Daredevil/Spider-Man team-up is well overdue in the MCU.

By all accounts, it’s pretty exciting to see Angela officially joining Daredevil’s resistance movement. Likewise, it’s exciting to think about the MCU’s new White Tiger becoming more of an official sidekick to the Man Without Fear.

Fogwell’s Gym

Fogwell's Gym Flashback in Daredevil Born Again Season 2 Episode 4

Mayor Fisk’s charity boxing match against Mike “Matterhorn” Melendez is happening at Fogwell’s Gym, where Matt Murdock spent lots of his childhood with his father, who was a professional boxer before he was killed for not throwing a match. We even get some shots from the original Netflix Daredevil show when Daredevil reminisces about his past.

New York Seal (Stan Lee)

While Vanessa Fisk talks with the governor of New York in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4, we can see the New York seal behind her and the state’s motto “Excelsior”, the same motto of the late Marvel legend Stan Lee. Of course, it makes sense for the New York state seal and motto to be the governor’s office, though the connection to Stan Lee is still fun to point out just the same, regardless of the intent.

Europa And The White Bull

Mayor Fisk and Vanessa in Daredevil Born Again Seaosn 2 Episode 2

Vanessa and Wilson Fisk are referred to as Europa and the White Bull from Greek mythology, where Zeus transformed himself into a white bull to seduce the mortal woman Europa, who eventually became a queen after taming the creature. It’s a very fitting comparison considering Vanessa and Wilson’s relationship in the MCU, especially after Vanessa’s promise to the governor that she’ll be able to keep her husband in check.

Clinton Church & Sister Maggie

Young Matt Murdock Flashback in Daredevil Born Again Season 2 Episode 4

Matt Murdock returns to Clinton Church to pray in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4, the same church where he grew up as an orphan, with the location being heavily featured in Marvel’s Netflix era (hence the shots of young Matt from the previous Marvel series).

While speaking to the priest about the token he found while investigating the diner, Murdock learns that Bullseye had been asking about his mother Sister Maggie in earlier episodes of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, who is currently taking a sabbatical year in Rome. (Sister Maggie was also featured in Netflix’s Daredevil, played by Joanne Whalley).
