Invincible season 4 episode 6 has landed on Prime Video — and fans have mostly praised the temerity of its creative team over the amusingly deceptive end-credits scene of this week’s installment.
Titled ‘You Look Horrible’, a lot happens in Invincible season 4‘s antepenultimate chapter. It’s episode 6’s end-credits scene, though, that’s become a hot topic of conversation within the Invincible community, with many viewers praising the fake-out nature of said post-credits moment.

Is Conquest actually dead in Invincible season 4 episode 6?
In short: yes, Conquest is no longer a problem that Mark Grayson, aka the Prime Video show’s protagonist, will have to deal with, because Mark killed Conquest in season 4 episode 5.
“Haven’t we been here before?”, some of you might be asking — and, yes, you’re right. Following Invincible‘s season 3 finale, viewers who hadn’t read the comic books assumed that Conquest was dead. That’s because the combined efforts of Mark and Atom Eve not only defeated Conquest in last season’s eighth and final episode, but also appeared to eliminate him.
However, that episode’s own post-credits scene revealed that Cecil Stedman, Head of the Global Defence Agency, had recovered Conquest’s broken body. For what purpose? To interrogate Conquest about the Viltrumites, learn more about their weaknesses, and use that information to better defend planet Earth.
If you’ve been keeping up with the Amazon TV Original, you’ll know that Cecil’s plan falls apart. As soon as Conquest wakes from his coma in season 4 episode 1, he immediately busts out of the confines of his miles-below-ground prison, returns to Viltrum, and urges its authoritarian leader — Grand Regent Thragg — to kill him for failing to complete his mission.
Saying he doesn’t reward failure by taking someone’s head, Thragg refuses Conquest’s demand. Instead, he tasks Conquest with following through on the task he was set — i.e., dispatching of Mark, and anyone else who stands in the way of the Viltrum Empire’s goal of assimilating Earth.
That brings us to last week’s entry and its follow-up. In last week’s entry, Mark and Conquest’s latest showdown ends in the same way as season 3 episode 8’s did. That being, Mark wins by killing Conquest, but almost at the cost of his own life.
This time around, it appears as though Conquest has been permanently disposed of, too. As Mark slowly recovers from his near-fatal injuries in this week’s chapter, we see his father, Nolan Grayson, aka Omni-Man, burying Conquest on the remote planet that he, Mark, and Oliver Grayson are marooned on.
Invincible‘s latest chapter doesn’t end without tricking its audience into thinking that Conquest could return for a second time, though.
Midway through its credits, we return to Conquest’s grave. Ominous music begins to play as the camera zooms in on his final resting place and, as the tension-building music swells, many might expect to see Viltrum’s second-strongest warrior somehow rise from the grave. Cue the use of a smash cut where the music suddenly stops and the camera lingers on Conquest’s grave as a small gust of wind humorously blows some dirt across the screen.

As I alluded to at the start of this article, many fans have lauded the decision to make them think that Conquest would come back again, only to have the rug pulled from under them.
“Okay, that fake out ending was hilarious. I burst out laughing at 4 in the morning,” Reddit user CabassoG wrote. “Broooo they got me at the end credits lmfao. What a great troll, my heart actually sank,” Qedic admitted, before whovian25 opined: “I loved that fake out tease at the end.”
“The Conquest theme playing at the end had us all scared lol,” Aclysmic said, while Zoltreks also wrote: “The f*****g fake out at the end god damn.”
There were some fans who didn’t take too kindly to being misled, mind you.
On Reddit, sleepyotter92 said: “I was ready to punch my f*****g screen if they revealed that f****r was still alive”. ChampionV agreed, writing: “That end bit was not funny. I was f*****g stressing”. MaxGalli was similarly annoyed to begin with, but eventually saw the funny side of things, saying: “The fake out ending was hilarious. Had me from getting angry to laughing loudly for minutes when the reveal was made.”
Some long-time fans of the graphic novels thought Conquest would be brought back from the dead, too.
“Holy s**t, the end credits scene had me thinking we were gonna take a huuuge detour from the comics for a second,” Raimiversus admitted. “That Conquest fake out at the end had me going even though I knew it wasn’t going to happen,” fellow Redditor Sarcastic also opined. Meanwhile, over on X/Twitter, user TheMasterofLuck added: “I honestly thought Conquest was coming back with that end credit scene and was about to be so mad as a comic reader.”
If Conquest had somehow survived, it wouldn’t have been the first time that Invincible‘s TV adaptation had tweaked an aspect of its literary namesake. However, it arguably would have been the biggest — and, potentially, most contentious — alteration so far because it would have fundamentally changed the overarching story. Thank goodness, then, that it won’t.
