Crunchyroll Officially Resurrects Attack on Titan For One Last Epic Release

[

Few anime finales have carried the weight and global anticipation of Attack on Titan, and now fans are being given one final reason to return to its world. In a surprising but welcome move, Crunchyroll is bringing the saga back to theaters in 2026 with a special event screening that celebrates the series’ explosive conclusion.

Originally reimagined as a cinematic experience in 2024, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack condensed the franchise’s climactic moments into a single, sweeping feature. Now, two years later, it’s being revived for a one-night theatrical showcase, according to a press release via CBR, giving audiences across North America another opportunity to witness the end of an era on the big screen.

A Final Return to Theaters for Attack on Titan

The return of Attack on Titan: The Last Attack is part of Crunchyroll’s expanding Anime Nights initiative, a monthly theatrical program designed to highlight major anime titles. Scheduled for May 2026, the screening is expected to take place on May 18, aligning with the program’s tradition of hosting events on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. local time.

This revival is far from a limited release. The film will be screened in more than 280 theaters across the United States and Canada, with major chains like AMC Theatres, Regal Cinemas, Cinemark Theatres, Landmark Cinemas, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema all participating. This wide release ensures that longtime fans and newcomers alike can experience the finale in a communal setting.

First released in 2024, the film compiles the two-part 2023 finale, Attack on Titan: Final Season – The Final Chapters, into a two-and-a-half-hour cinematic event. Produced by MAPPA, the movie delivers a polished, emotionally intense retelling of the story’s final arc, making it ideal for theatrical presentation.

At the heart of The Last Attack lies the devastating destruction of The Rumbling, the catastrophic plan enacted by Eren Yeager. After transforming into the terrifying Founding Titan, Eren sets out to eradicate his enemies, forcing his former allies into an impossible position. The fate of humanity hinges on stopping the very person they once fought beside.

The surviving members of the Scout Regiment, including Mikasa Ackermann, Armin Arlert, and Levi Ackermann, must unite for a final confrontation. Their mission blends emotional closure with high-stakes action, delivering one of the most talked-about conclusions in modern anime history.

“We Plan to Continue”: Long After Its Final Season, Attack on Titan’s Producer Says the Anime Isn’t Done Yet

Attack on Titan’s anime may be over, but that does not mean that the franchise is finished making new content and collaborations for fans to enjoy.

Before this May event, Crunchyroll Anime Nights will also spotlight another major franchise: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Its first film, Scarlet Bond, returns to theaters on April 20, 2026, alongside a preview of its newest installment, Tears of the Azure Sea, which debuted in Japan on February 27, 2026.

With Season 4 of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime having premiered on April 3, 2026, and its latest film launching in North America on May 1, Crunchyroll’s theatrical push highlights its broader commitment to anime as a shared cinematic experience. Still, it’s the return of Attack on Titan that stands as the emotional centerpiece, giving fans one last chance for fans to relive its unforgettable finale exactly as it was meant to be seen.
