‘The Pitt’: Have Viewers Seen The Last Of Supriya Ganesh?

[

SPOILER ALERT: The following will reveal plot points from the Season 2 finale of HBO Max‘s The Pitt.

Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) really struggled in HBO Max’s The Pitt‘s second season, and it was truly such a heartbreaking storyline to see play out.

It wasn’t just work that was causing Mohan’s stress and anxiety; her personal life was also imploding. The repeated calls from her mother, who was not respecting Mohan’s boundaries, were enough to push her over the edge. Additionally, the frustration over what her focus should be on at the hospital, what she would be best suited to do, added to the anxiety. She had a panic attack in an earlier episode when everything pushes Mohan to the brink of what’s reasonable.

In the Season 2 finale, Mohan reconnects with Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), who previously yelled at her for letting her personal problems affect her performance at work while Mohan was in a delicate state. Meanwhile, he remains completely oblivious to how his mental health crisis is affecting his staff. But I digress.

In that reunion outside the hospital, Robby shows interest in whether or not Mohan had any luck picking an elective. She says she hasn’t, and Robby proceeds to try to give her some advice that seems like it was a too little, too late type of situation. Who can blame her?

Mohan is a good egg, and the reality of Robby’s mental health crisis has not escaped her. So she gently lets him know that he is needed in the ER, “even if you can be a dick sometimes,” she said. Robby gives her a little smile, knowing full well that he deserved it.

It was announced earlier this month that Ganesh would be exiting the show. Mohan will probably end up taking some time to sort out her life and to make a decision about her future off camera. But that sadly means that she will no longer be on the show.

Show creator, writer, and executive producer R. Scott Gemmill revealed that the emotional scene of Mohan on the hospital’s rooftop (photo above) will be the final time viewers will see her on the show.

“The nature of the business of a teaching hospital is that people come and go, and we try to be as realistic as possible. We’ve had people leave, and we will continue to have people leave over the course of the show. It has its downside because you get to like a character, and then they move on. But that’s sort of what life is like, especially in these working environments. People will come, and people will go, and that’s just the nature of the show,” he shared.

Regarding whether or not viewers will have to continue to say goodbye to characters each season, Gemmill said, “That’s for sure.”
