How Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars Are Connected Explained By Kevin Feige

With eight months to go until Avengers: Doomsday is released in theaters, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed how that movie connects to the 2027 sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars.

During an interview with Fandango, Feige opened up about the next two Avengers films, revealing that “they relate in a very different way than Infinity War and Endgame,” which were released in 2018 and 2019, respectively. There are definitely connecting threads between the two storylines, which comic book readers are already aware of.

The Marvel boss acknowledged that a lot of fans probably think that the Doomsday and Secret Wars movies will have a “similar connection” to each other in the way that Infinity War and Endgame did, but that is not the case. “While one certainly does lead into the other, it’s in a very different way,” he admitted.

Feige also teased that Avengers: Secret Wars is “as ambitious a project as we’ve ever embarked on.”

“People familiar with the comic stories see that they will relate. But I will say this: They relate in a very different way than Infinity War and Endgame. I think people are expecting a similar connection, and while one certainly does lead into the other, it’s in a very different way. And I will say that Secret Wars is as ambitious a project as we’ve ever embarked on.”

The most recent Avengers films, Infinity War and Endgame, were essentially two parts of the same continuing story, with the Blip, in which Thanos wipes out half of all humanity after collecting the Infinity Stones, acting as the cliffhanger that split up the two installments.

In fact, back when these two movies were first announced, they were called Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 before Marvel renamed the latter to Endgame.

Based on Feige’s latest comments, he’s making it clear that while there are connections between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, he doesn’t want to give fans the impression that Marvel Studios is just retreading familiar ground once again or making false promises.

Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame brought together a massive cast of characters for the biggest team-up in Marvel Cinematic Universe history, including the original Avengers team, Dr. Strange, Spider-Man, Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy and many more, as they worked to defeat villain Thanos.

Endgame ended up earning $2.8 billion at the box office and currently stands as the second-highest grossing film of all time, behind Avatar.

After those two films forever changed the franchise, the MCU continued on with several more films like Spider-Man: Far From Home, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Deadpool & Wolverine, Thunderbolts*, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which comes out July 31.

Five months after Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man film is released, Marvel Studios will deliver the next highly anticipated Avengers team-up with Doomsday. Several familiar faces will appear in the movie, including Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr., who’s playing villain Doctor Doom this time around.

Then Avengers: Secret Wars will be released a year later to close out not just Phase Six but also the Multiverse Saga as a whole.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Friday, December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars arrives in theaters on December 17, 2027.
