The Elder Scrolls celebrated its 30th anniversary two years ago, and we’re still waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6. What started as a journey into Arena eventually took us through multiple regions, notably Morrowind, Cyrodiil, and Skyrim. Now, Bethesda is poised to bring us into another corner of the TES universe.
What region will that be? Well, we still need full confirmation from Bethesda, since all they’ve really shown so far is a 2018 cinematic trailer. Bethesda has its hands full at the moment, juggling several key IPs, but folks think they have a good idea of what to expect based on the publisher’s lengthy track record.
On Reddit, fans are discussing the fate of The Elder Scrolls 6 and what we could see from this storied franchise. Given Bethesda’s recent efforts, many folks are concerned about what this new world will look like, and fans are currently torn.
And The Region
Using Starfield‘s latest engine and updates as a baseline, fans posit how a potential Hammerfell region could look in The Elder Scrolls 6, if it’s chosen as the focus region.
Fans are skeptical: “Hopefully, the water will look better. Overall, I think Starfield is a really nice-looking game with excellent lighting. The one glaringly dated feature is the flat, bland water. For a game that was centered around different worlds, biomes, they really should have spent more time making oceans with waves, running rivers, and waterfalls.”
Some hyperfans think it could work, and even lay the groundwork for how: “If the region they select is Hammerfell then folk have to understand that the province is vast. Much larger than Skyrim. What folk should prepare for is something they might not expect. They might have vast stretches of wasteland to encounter and cross between Cities, Villages and Camps.”
They expand on those notions: “Transportation will become even more important in TESVI than folk probably realise… Given the distance they may have to travel. This also means that folk who think they will see houses, or shrines, or camps etc, literally every three steps as they have in much more condensed play areas of other games are possibly going to be in for a complete shock.”
Others are more positive, and think that Bethesda will nail what is ostensibly their core franchise, along with Fallout: “If there is one thing I am legit 100% certain on the landscape is going to be gorgeous. I think Todd [Howard] himself said that the world comes first whenever he is making these games.”
Hammerfell Probably Won’t Look Like Starfield
If It Makes It In
Starfield was in development for many years before its 2023 release, which will be years before the time The Elder Scrolls 6 actually drops. Bethesda is likely cooking up some enhancements for Tamriel, and waiting for the right time to show them off. It’s been nearly a decade after all, and if they don’t have much to show for it, they’ll hear about it from fans.
The Elder Scrolls fans seem extremely patient, especially since Bethesda has been so mum about The Elder Scrolls 6. When we do see what the game looks like, it’ll need to knock it out of the park.
