As digital storefronts go, Steam really does a great job of bringing a ton of value to the PC gaming consumer, with regular sales and events that allow us to pick up games for very little of our hard-earned cash.
Though it isn’t without its issues on occasion, it really has become the home of video games on the platform, and it’s worth keeping a regular eye on so you don’t miss out on the very best it has to offer. Happily, one such event is live now, and there’s a ton of value to be had if you’re able to move quickly, before it goes away forever.
Steam’s Medieval Fest Is Here, M’Lord
Head over to the Steam store right now and it will quickly become clear that the Medieval Fest is currently live, bringing the best games that are rooted in the time period (and Middle Earth: Shadow of War, for some reason). As part of that, there are a ton of exciting demos that have been made available for players to download for free, so you don’t end up buying something that doesn’t hit the spot.
The big hitters for most will likely be Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon and the aforementioned Middle Earth: Shadow of War. The former is rooted in Arthurian legends and boasts a complex, branching storyline where your choices really matter. Plus, if you do end up really enjoying it, the full game is on offer for a 35% discount.
Outside of that, the offering of demos includes everything from first-person hack-and-slash games to settlement builders and cosy management sims, with highlights including Tiny Glade, Foundation, Mount and Blade: Warband, Total War: Medieval II – Definitive Edition, Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition, and Going Medieval.
In total, there are 24 featured demos available on the home page as part of the event, though there are more to discover if you head further down the list to see the true extent of Medieval Fest’s ambition.
Steam Is A Great Place For Free Demos
Even outside of the events that they host, which are remarkably regular, Steam has become a great place to go if you’re looking to try games out before making a purchase. Developers are equally committed to standing by their creations in releasing free-to-play samples of their creations too, which is usually a good sign that they are proud of the final product. Long may it continue.
