Despite what you may have seen in Deadpool 2, Ryan Reynolds isn’t the only owner of Wrexham AFC who can travel back in time. Business partner Rob Mac goes on a solo trip back to ye olde times in a new spot pairing Welcome to Wrexham with genealogy website Ancestry.com. It’s coming just in time for the upcoming fifth season of Welcome to Wrexham, which will premiere on FX on May 14.
In the spot, Reynolds and Mac (formerly Rob McElhenney) are at the Wrexham Training Academy, admiring the kits (but not the kids). Reynolds then touts Ancestry.com, the genealogy website that lets you build a family tree. He’s traced his lineage back to a centuries-past ancestor named Innocent George, which he finds hilarious. Mac briefly fantasizes about Innocent George, too, as the ad cuts to Mac as George, complete with powdered wig and churchwarden pipe, as he ponders that one day, he will have a descendant who is “a profound ****.” Snapping back into reality, he’s then berated for dream sequencing without Reynolds. If you want to find your own Innocent George, you can check out Ancestry.com/wrexham, where you can also find a limited edition bundle of a Wrexham-branded DNA testing kit and a Wrexham supporters’ scarf.
Season 5 of Welcome to Wrexham premieres on FX on May 14. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
