Despite 2026 already shaping up to be a fantastic year for gaming so far, we’re still waiting on updates for massive franchises like The Last of Us for when we can expect to jump into their worlds once more. Thankfully, there is at least one exciting title on the horizon that doesn’t have nearly as long a wait, being great for fans of TLOU divided over its potential sequel.
Even though there hasn’t been a shortage of zombie games lately, there’s one upcoming indie title on the horizon that already looks like it will offer an incredibly memorable gameplay experience, especially if its latest trailer and mix of creative perspectives are anything to go by.
The Last Of Us Fans Shouldn’t Miss Long Gone
Having recently received a brand-new gameplay trailer uploaded to the official Hillfort Games YouTube channel, the 2027 release of the indie game LONG GONE has been sparking plenty of interest from more than just fans of the post-apocalyptic zombie survival genre.
With the latest trailer highlighting some of the more action-packed chase sequences and stealth you’ll get to experience in the full release, the point-and-click-adventure style gameplay of LONG GONE seems to find just the right balance of tension-filled gameplay and clever puzzle solving, which is especially vital given that it doesn’t have any of the combat that you’d expect from a zombie survival game.
Offering an incredibly unique 2.5D pixelated art style that shares plenty of similarities with the release of the long-awaited REPLACED on Xbox Game Pass, the similarly stunning art style of LONG GONG goes far beyond a simple pixel game. Offering a mix of dynamic lighting and voxel-based environments to create an even more immersive gameplay experience as you piece together what happened to its previous inhabitants while trying to survive a decade-long zombie apocalypse.
Long Gone Officially Lands In 2027
While there isn’t an exact release date for LONG GONE just yet, we do know that the upcoming indie game will release sometime in 2027 on PC via Steam, which has already been added to over 275 thousand wishlists by players eager to hop into its post-apocalyptic setting.
LONG GONE also includes a feline companion that offers more than just comfort, but can warn you of danger and even help you find treasure along your journey.
Described as an “atmospheric 3D pixel narrative adventure” on LONG GONE‘s official website, the more personal point-and-click adventure gameplay boasts a fully interactive experience where you’ll need to take advantage of every item you can get your hands on to navigate its perils, while also including a unique cast of survivors hidden throughout the world.
Even if the puzzle-focused gameplay and pixelated art style of LONG GONE might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about The Last Of Us, the unique aesthetic and creative gameplay style look like a breath of fresh air, while still carrying plenty of the spirit and creativity that make the best zombie franchises so memorable.
