Seth MacFarlane clarifies his prior comments about Ted season 3.
The Peacock television series is a prequel to the 2012 movie of the same name and is set in the 1990s. In both projects, along with the 2015 film sequel Ted 2, MacFarlane voices the titular foul-mouthed teddy bear. When previously discussing the possibility of Ted season 3 with ScreenRant, the creator and star shared that “as of now, there are no direct plans” to continue the live-action show, seemingly indicating that it had come to an end with season 2.
At Deadline‘s Contenders TV panel for Ted, MacFarlane has now shared that, as long as Peacock has the money for it, he and his creative team are likely to continue following the bear in live action. He suggests that this could take the form of Ted season 3 or a movie that releases directly on Peacock. Check out MacFarlane’s comments below:
It really is up to Peacock with their, you know, vast amounts of big Scrooge McDuck money that they dive into every day. I think all of us, in some form or another, whether it’s a Season 3 of Ted or a direct-to-Peacock feature with this cast, is something I think we’d all be up for. It’s all on the table.
MacFarlane’s remarks are a promising sign that the Ted season 2 finale isn’t a definitive ending, especially with a direct-to-streaming movie being a potential option. With eight episodes each around 30 minutes long, Ted season 2’s total runtime was around four hours long. A film’s runtime would likely be much shorter, which could make it less expensive for Peacock to make than a third season.
Both seasons of Ted have been well-received by critics and general audiences. The show has an overall 87% Tomatometer score and 90% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 1’s 74% critical score was far surpassed by season 2’s 100%, while the audience score stayed consistent with 90% for both seasons. These scores are higher than the franchise’s movies, especially when compared to Ted 2.

Along with the positive reception, Ted‘s viewership on Peacock has been high as well. Per Nielsen, season 2 has received 1.2 billion minutes of viewing since all eight episodes came to the streaming platform on March 5. The whole show is also Peacock’s most-watched scripted original series since 2022 for men between 18 and 34 years old. These are the kinds of numbers that could potentially be further capitalized on with Ted season 3 or a Ted movie.
Even though season 3 or a movie continuing to follow the teddy bear and teenage John Bennett (Max Burkholder) is unconfirmed for now, the franchise is set to continue on Peacock later this year with Ted: The Animated Series. The upcoming show is a sequel to Ted 2 and features Mark Wahlberg returning to voice the adult version of John that he played in the movies. Amanda Seyfried and Jessica Barth are also reprising their respective roles as Sam Jackson and Tami-Lynn, while Liz Richman and Kyle Mooney voice new characters.
In addition to MacFarlane voicing Ted and Burkholder playing teenage John, the cast of the Ted series includes Alanna Ubach as John’s mother Susan, Scott Grimes as John’s father Matty, Giorgia Whigham as John’s cousin Blaire, Marissa Shankar as Blaire’s girlfriend Sarah, and Ara Hollyday as John and Ted’s classmate Andrew. After X-Men‘s Charles Xavier actor Patrick Stewart was the narrator in the movies, Magneto actor Ian McKellen guest stars as the narrator in the show.
