An upcoming star joining the 007-led franchise has been pushing for one particularly new James Bond actor to lead Amazon’s upcoming reboot of the spy film series. The upcoming James Bond reboot movie is the first to be produced by Amazon, who acquired creative rights to the franchise in 2025. The full franchise is being overseen by Amy Pascal and David Heyman. The first upcoming movie — and 26th installment in the franchise — will be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune: Part Two) and written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders).

James Bond was created in 1953 by a former British Naval Intelligence officer who borrowed the name from the author of a dusty ornithology book on his desk in Jamaica. He wrote 12 Bond novels and two short story collections before his death in 1964. Name him.

He only made one film — On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969) — and quit. Who was he?

He had zero acting experience, talked his way in, got the role, and then walked away on the advice of an agent who told him Bond would be “dead by 1970.” It remains one of the most notorious career decisions in film history — On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is now widely considered one of the best Bond films ever made. Bond’s most iconic car — silver birch paint, ejector seat, machine guns behind the headlights, revolving number plates — made its debut in Goldfinger (1964) and has returned in GoldenEye, Casino Royale, Skyfall, Spectre and No Time to Die. What model is it?

Now, speaking with Radio Times Gamingat the BAFTA Game Awards, actor Lennie James revealed he wants to see actor Patrick Gibson take on the role of James Bond. Gibson voices Bond in the upcoming video game 007 First Light, where his likeness is also used via motion capture of the actor. The video game documents Bond’s origin story as a young MI6 agent. James portrays his mentor, John Greenway, in the game. At 25:24 in a video interview, based on his experience working with Gibson, James believes he would be a perfect Bond in a live-action movie too.

The video game, which will be released on May 27, 2026, was approached similarly to the James Bond movies, with actors using motion capture similar to the CGI in a blockbuster film to bring the characters to life in-game. Their likenesses are also used, which is anticipated to give 007 First Light a cinematic feel to its cutscenes and gameplay. This means, although it’s a video game, Gibson portrayed Bond both physically and vocally throughout the project. It’s because of this that James believes he would be the perfect candidate for a full-fledged movie.
007 First Light Bond
Gibson is no stranger to high-profile roles in movies and TV shows. He previously starred as a young Dexter Morgan on the cast of Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel set 15 years before the original series. He’s also starred as Steve Winchell in The OA and Nikolai Lantsov in Shadow and Bone. In terms of movie roles, he’s most recently starred as Jamie in the 2022 drama Good Girl Jane and as the lead in the fantasy comedy film The Portable Door, opposite Sophie Wilde and Christoph Waltz.
Because he’s proven himself a strong actor across various media already, it would make him a viable Bond candidate. Although the game has yet to be released, meaning the exactness of his portrayal isn’t publicly available just yet, James’ vouching for Gibson signals just how strong a performance he gives in the upcoming James Bond video game. He already looks the part for a young Bond actor, and with the game being an origin story for the character, the movie could potentially jump off its story to create a shared universe for the franchise.
For now, though, it remains up in the air who will really portray 007 when the James Bond franchise returns to the big screen. Gibson would be a potential choice, but it’s not guaranteed that he would reprise his role. Regardless, the potential is there, and clearly something his co-star would like to see tackled in the next movie to come out.
