EXCLUSIVE: Buffalo 8 Distribution has acquired the feature documentary Ice Ice Baby – Hip Hop’s 1st Global #1 and will launch sales at the upcoming Cannes Market.

The film is said to explore “the extraordinary and misunderstood journey of Rob Van Winkle, known worldwide as Vanilla Ice, and the unprecedented success of his chart-topping single Ice Ice Baby, the first hip-hop song to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.”

The documentary includes interviews with Monte Lipman (Chairman, Founder & CEO of Republic Records), Daniel Glass (Founder of Glassnote Records), Charles Koppelman (CEO of CAK Entertainment and former CEO of SBK Records) as well as Vanilla Ice contemporaries, Vincent “Vin Rock” Brown (Naughty by Nature), Christopher “Kid” Reid (Kid ‘n Play), MTV Veejay, Downtown Julie Brown, along with members of the VIP posse, Tommy Quon (Ice’s Manager), and Van Winkle family members.

The film is directed and produced by Frank Licari and Hele Murphy. The film is executive produced by Murphy and Licari, along with Khoa Le, CEO of Kvibe Productions. The film was shot on location in New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Nassau, Bahamas, Wellington, Florida, Miami, and Cozumel, Mexico.

“This is exactly the kind of project Buffalo 8 looks to champion — culturally significant, emotionally resonant, and built for a global audience,” Nikki Stier Justice, Head of Distribution at Buffalo 8, said in a statement.

“The film speaks to music fans, cultural historians, and anyone interested in how moments of disruption change industries and lives. We’re excited to support its worldwide release.”
