Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Title Officially Chosen

[

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is on its way, and it sounds like it’s coming way sooner than expected. After the four-year gap between Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the much more expansive Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the general assumption was that the final chapter of the trilogy would arrive in 2028. Not so, it would seem.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently confirmed once again that development on the project is coming along brilliantly, and that we can expect to learn more soon. What’s more, the game’s mysterious subtitle has now been decided after it was initially narrowed down to two options last year.

In a recent interview with Comicbook, Hamaguchi confirmed that development is “proceeding on time and on schedule”, which is great to hear.

“What I can say is that development itself is proceeding on time and on schedule,” Hamaguchi explained. “We believe it’ll become a title we can deliver with confidence as the culmination of the trilogy. We know many fans are eagerly waiting, and preparations toward the announcement are steadily underway. Please look forward to it just a little longer.”

Hamaguchi delivers regular updates like this, but one you might have missed comes from back in January, in an interview with GameSpot.

“I remember an interview I did at Paris Games Week about how we’d narrowed it down to two [names],” Hamaguchi said. “It was up to Mr. Nomura to decide which it is. And yes, after returning from Paris Games Week, he did choose one, so I can say the title has been locked.”

Mr Nomura, of course, is Tetsuya Nomura, the trilogy’s creative director. So, now that the game’s title has officially been locked in, what could it possibly be?i

Given the first two games are called Remake and Rebirth, it’s a pretty safe bet that Square Enix plans to stick with an R-word for the final game. They could, of course, eschew convention and call it something like Final Fantasy 7 Bye Fellas, but I doubt it.

I think we can eliminate Final Fantasy 7 Reborn, because it sounds too similar to Rebirth. We can also safely do away with Requiem thanks to Resident Evil. Reunion is a fairly popular choice among fans, but it’s worth pointing out Square already used this on Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion. The Square Enix marketing department could explode if they went that route.

Personally, I believe we can expect the game to be called Final Fantasy 7 Return, which would make sense with the trilogy’s themes of second chances and resurrection. We’ll find out for sure when Square Enix unveils more information on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, hopefully before the end of the year.
