Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Speculation Debunked by Andrew Garfield

[

Former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield has shut down the suggestion he is secretly in Spider-Man: Brand New Day — and specifically denied being one of the characters fans seem certain have been edited out of a specific trailer shot.

Marvel’s first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer included a particular moment that fans believe has been digitally edited to hide other characters that currently remain under wraps. Marvel did this previously with a trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, back when Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man were still a secret.

Now, however, Garfield has been asked to comment on that particular trailer moment — prompting him to describe the situation as “insane” and “absolutely ludicrous.”

“This feels like a reach to be honest, what do you mean there’s room for more characters?” Garfield said when shown the trailer image by Capital FM. “It’s literally just space underneath Spider-Man. They’re all headed to Spider-Man. There’s room for more characters in every frame of the film, probably.

“This is insane,” he continued. “This is absolutely ludicrous conspiracy theory level attempts at investigative journalism. You’ve lost your damn minds.” Cheekily, he then added: “You notice that I didn’t say I wasn’t in it though, right?”

The scene in question comes right at the end of the trailer, as Spider-Man dramatically propels himself towards a crowd of ninjas. It’s a great shot, though fans think it is the latest example of a Marvel trailer not showing the full picture.

Take a look at the direction all of the ninjas are leaping, and it appears that some seem to be headed towards other, unseen targets rather than Spidey himself, in what may be the latest example of Marvel providing a separate, altered version of a shot to hide plot spoilers. Who else could be in the final version, that could be considered a spoiler? Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is one option. Or could it be Sadie Sink’s mysterious character, now working alongside Spidey?

Garfield isn’t the only Marvel actor who has been asked specifically about that trailer shot, as Daredevil actor Charlie Cox — who has also been widely rumored to appear in Brand New Day, despite his prior denials — has also given his response.

“I’m not in it,” Cox told ITV News this month at the BAFTA Games Awards, before being asked about the same Brand New Day trailer moment. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I’m not there,” Cox continued. “Unless they put me in after the fact using computer generated images, I’m not there.”

Who’s telling the truth? Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters on July 31, when all with be revealed.
