Speculation over FromSoftware’s next major Elden Ring follow-up project has been rampant ever since the rumor surfaced last year of an unannounced title in the works code-named “FMC.” While virtually no details about the project have surfaced in that time, fans have put forth countless theories on what the next game could be, whether that’s an official Elden Ring sequel, a new Bloodborne entry, or something completely new.
Despite there being no official confirmation of this unannounced FromSoft project and what it may entail, a newly surfaced “leak” has started circulating on social media that suggests project FMC is not only real, but that it could be revealed extremely soon, possibly even this year.
While the rumor should be taken with the grainiest of salts, it points to a new open-world adventure featuring pirates on the high seas, and even includes an apparent title, but fans are highly skeptical at this point (via X).
According to recent reports, FromSoftware’s next major title is going to be called Cerulean Onslaught, and will feature open-world, pirate-based exploration on an island-based map, where players will travel around the high seas on their pirate ship as a sort of home base. The rumor stems from a 4-Chan discussion, which should raise just about all the red flags you have at your disposal, though it’s worth noting that Bloodborne technically leaked via this same method as “Project Beast” just a few months before its official reveal in 2014.
Apparently, the unannounced FMC project is supposed to stand for “Project Marine Combat,” and is supposed to not only be revealed in the coming months, but is said to be releasing in August this year before the official launch of The Duskbloods.
If your BS meter is being overloaded right now, you’re not alone, and in many ways this apparent leak seems too convenient to be true, especially given The Duskbloods hasn’t even been given an official release window in 2026 yet. To make matters even more unbelievable (in the literal sense of the word), the leak suggests Cerulean Onslaught is going to be self-published by FromSoftware, which would be an unprecedented and completely bonkers move, though not technically impossible.
It’s not all that surprising that FromSoft fans are crying foul on the leak given the original source, the completely unmarketable title, and just about every other detail provided that simply cuts against the grain of what players would expect from a major follow-up to Elden Ring.
Further, it’s highly unlikely that a brand-new IP would be announced and then be launched in just a matter of months when FromSoft already has The Duskbloods and Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition set to launch this year. While the idea of a Soulsborne pirate game is certainly intriguing, the likelihood of this rumor panning out seems absolutely abysmal, though I guess anything is possible.
