Marvel Officially Confirms Captain America Will Have Brutal Hulk Injury in New Appearance

Marvel has confirmed that in Steve Rogers’ next outing as Captain America, the Sentinel of Liberty will be sporting a major injury caused by the Hulk.

It’s not uncommon for superheroes to suffer major injuries, but Steve Rogers tends to get off lightly. While heroes like the Punisher, Wolverine and Spider-Man have been beaten to a pulp, Steve Rogers tends to suffer less graphic injuries.

Now, it seems that Marvel has just been saving up the pain, as Steve Rogers suffers his most gruesome injury of all time at the hands of the Hulk… and it’s nothing like you think.

The Infernal Hulk Has Broken Steve Rogers’ Captain America Like Never Before

Fans witnessed Captain America’s horrific fate in the recent Amazing Spider-Man 1000/Queen in Black CGD 2026 #1. The issue includes an ‘Infernal Hulk’ preview from Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Nic Klein, Matthew Wilson and Cory Petit, building up to Marvel’s upcoming event Hulk War.

As the Infernal Hulk transforms various heroes into monstrous new forms, Steve Rogers is the exception. While Spider-Man, Iron Man and Captain Marvel are corrupted into towering kaiju, the Infernal Hulk instead crucifies Captain America, carrying him through the streets as a war banner.

The issue’s narration makes it clear that the Infernal Hulk is obsessed with the dichotomy between heroes and monsters. While it’s making its point by transforming the former into the latter, it seemingly wants to make a particular example of Captain America, literally piercing him through the heart to declare the era of heroes at an end.

Hulk Already Created Captain America’s Dark Opposite

While this preview is a flashforward to upcoming events in Infernal Hulk, the undead soldiers shown carrying Cap have already been introduced. Back in The Infernal Hulk #4, Eldest came under attack by the army, slaughtering countless soldiers and resurrecting them as zombie thralls.

The Infernal Hulk’s attention particularly fell on war hero David Bridger. Hulk broke Bridger and summoned an ancient demon to possess him – Jinni Dagaal, the War Devil. Bridger arose as an undead soldier wrapped in barbed wire, now the commander of the Infernal Hulk’s legions.

This helps explain why Hulk hasn’t transformed Captain America like the other heroes – it already has a monstrous commander for its army, making Steve Rogers more useful as a symbol with which to intimidate the mortal world as the ‘Age of Monsters’ officially dawns.

But with so many iconic heroes transformed and fighting for the new Hulk, who exactly will be fighting for humanity when Hulk War officially arrives?

Hulk War’s Heroic Resistance Is Beginning to Assemble

Amazing Spider-Man 1000/Queen in Black CGD 2026 hints which heroes will oppose the Infernal Hulk when Hulk War rolls around in early 2027. The students of the newly established Spider-Versity are seen helping innocents sneak to safety, while Captain America remaining human means he can be rescued and return to the field.

Likewise, the powerless Bruce Banner has been sitting out the Infernal Hulk’s rise under a new identity, refusing Iron Man’s request to help them bring down the monster and banish Eldest. However, after a personal connection to David Bridger brings the horror home, Bruce is seemingly beginning to realize that there’s no way to actually escape the Infernal Hulk’s growing influence.

As a roster, that’s an incredibly low-powered set of heroes to try to bring down the Infernal Hulk and its monstrous Avengers. Hopefully, some of the Infernal Hulk’s corrupted heroes can be brought back to the light, otherwise Captain America‘s horrific fate could presage the end of humankind.
