After the rather shaky launch but ultimate redemption of Cyberpunk 2077, all eyes are now on CD Projekt RED’s next work in progress. Following up on The Witcher 3, and its rather excellent DLC campaigns seems like a tall order, but CD Projekt RED continues to make great decisions to ensure the project is in truly safe hands. With a stalwart writer now on board, there’s never been a better time to be excited about The Witcher IV.
As spotted by Pirat_Nation on X, we now know that Zdeněk Glatz has joined The Witcher IV team. Glatz previously worked as writer and lead level designer on both Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Zlatz’s level of experience and creative spark were a blessing for Warhorse Studios, and now it looks like he’ll be adding some magic to the upcoming The Witcher IV.
Zdeněk Glatz seems like the perfect fit as a writer for The Witcher IV. In fact, the side quest, character writing and often unexpected outcomes of events in KCD2 and the previous game often get compared to The Witcher 3. There is a sarcastic dark humor running through all these titles and no doubt Glatz will find his footing fairly comfortably with CD Projekt RED. No doubt, The Witcher IV will build on the strengths of the previous game and make the side quests even more compelling than the main story.
So far, we’ve seen graphical test demos set in the world of The Witcher IV, and we’ve learned that Ciri will be the main protagonist. Apart from these few details, we know precious little about the plot or the other characters who will flesh out the world around Cairn Morhen. Knowing at least that there are very talented writers behind the game, helps get us excited for what’s to come.
Fans over on Reddit seem to agree that adding Glatz to the mix is a positive step forward for the franchise. One said:
They’re snatching up some serious talent. This is getting me even more excited for the next Cyberpunk game too.
And another fondly remembers how good the writing on KCD2 was, commenting the following:
The final sequence in KCD2 was some of the best gaming experience I’ve had in an rpg in a while. Very excited for this
It’s hard to know prior to launch how good the story will be, but CD Projekt RED rarely drops the ball when it comes to narrative. Sure, they sometimes release buggy games too early, but their plots, character development and overarching storylines are always stellar and some of the best writing in video game history.
With The Witcher IV not slated to launch in 2026, it looks like next year will be the earliest opportunity we get to discover the secrets hidden in the mountains of Kovir. In the meantime, we can always spend some time with The Witcher 3: Tales of The Witcher or better yet…explore Japan with The Witcher: Path of Destiny Ronin rpg table-top game.
Hopefully CD Projekt RED will appease the fans between now and The Witcher IV launch with a new official DLC that bridges the gap between The Witcher 3 and the new game. All we know for sure though, is that more content from the game is expected to be shown off in June 2026 at Unreal Engine Fest. Get ready to toss your coins to The Witcher all over again next month folks.
