Assassin’s Creed Legend Ezio Is Finally Returning, But Gamers Are Divided

With all the talk and attention lately firmly on the remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, it feels like Assassin’s Creed Hexe has fallen through the cracks a little. Fear not though, thanks to a reliable Ubisoft leaker, we’ve now learned a plethora of information about next year’s next major flagship title for Ubisoft. Assassin’s Creed Hexe is starting to sound like a witching good time.

Thanks to a renowned Ubisoft leaker named Rogue over on Reddit, we now have more information about Assassin’s Creed Hexe than ever before. Top of the pile, of course, is the confirmation of the fan favorite franchise hero… Ezio. Previously, industry insider Tom Henderson let slip that Ezio would appear, and now we have a second source backing up the information with new details emerging of Ezio’s family lineage and even voice lines that will be used in Assassin’s Creed Hexe.

The full list of leaks/rumors is extensive, as you can see above. But here are the most important unconfirmed facts and takeaways from the Reddit thread:

• Ezio is in fact related to the main character in the game as she is a descendant of Claudia Auditore.
• The main character’s real name in the game is Anika. Elsa is just a placeholder name.
• The setting will feature plenty of wooded areas and branch jumping will be an unlockable skill.
• Voice lines have been leaked confirming Ezio’s presence in the game. They include: “Come. Leap with me. One last time for an old man.” and “They always fear what they cannot control. They called us demons once, too. But remember, Elsa: ‘Nulla è reale, tutto è lecito.”
• NPCs will immediately report any suspicious activity.

With Ubisoft keeping quite tight-lipped about Assassin’s Creed Hexe, it’s great to get fairly reliable leaks for us to speculate over. Of course, it’s important to take everything with a pinch of salt until we have official confirmation, but it’s still fun to let our imaginations run wild. Not all fans are convinced that shoe-horning Ezio into an upcoming game is a good idea. The more optimistic among us feel that a darker, more difficult stealth adventure with magical elements set around the Salem Witch trials is a compelling proposition. Having Ezio is just the cherry on the cake.

Hopefully, Elsa/Anika is well written and makes an impact the franchise has been lacking since the early days of Ezio Auditore. With fan focus firmly on the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Rescyned, it’s still nice to learn more about future Ubisoft projects. With a confirmed sequel coming for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag too, it might be a nice change of pace to break away from Edward and explore the season of the witch instead.

Once Assassin’s Creed Blag Flag Resycned launches, hopefully, we will learn a lot more about Assassin’s Creed Hexe. Personally, I’m praying for a return to form with a well-written adventure involving compelling characters. Who knows though, it could get review bombed for all the wrong reasons, like Crimson Desert. Ubisoft’s track record of late hasn’t been stellar, but hopefully, the remake of a fan favorite combined with exploring the supernatural in Assassin’s Creed Hexe will be enough to steady the ship once more.
