Black Clover Filler List: Every Episode You Can Skip

[

From the mind of Yuki Tabata and the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump before shifting to Jump GIGA, Black Clover is a beloved series that dominated streaming charts during its 3.5-year run now dubbed season 1. The series, much like many before the days of Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen, was a weekly anime running in perpetuity, meaning it was bound to release some filler along the way to give space for Tabata to stay handily ahead on the manga.

Surprisingly, though, Black Clover’s 170 episodes from 2017-2021 were only about 11% filler, an astonishing contrast against other Pierrot classics like Naruto: Shippuden or Bleach. Skipping these filler episodes won’t harm one’s understanding of the main plot of Black Clover, but with season 2 coming in 2026, it’s reasonable to know when they’re coming up. However, it’s also perfectly reasonable to know which filler episodes are coming, and knowingly drink them in, especially since some are truly charming interludes for hardcore fans.

Two Things We Need to Find

Black Clover Movie: Is It Canon?

While Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King has come and gone without directly adapting the manga, it is considered canon given Tabata’s supervision of the movie production, as well as participation in original character creation for the Netflix original film. Celebrating the Triumph, a tournament held every 10 years, the Clover Kingdom soon faces a reckoning.

Conrad Leto, the 27th Wizard King, who was imprisoned for betraying his kingdom, escapes his confinement, taking the Imperial Sword “Elsdocia” to unleash three deceased prior Wizard Kings. Hell-bent on wreaking havoc and destroying the Clover Kingdom around them, this threat pushes Asta to gather his and defeat the menaces ahead of them.

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King chronologically takes place between the Elf Reincarnation Arc and the Heart Kingdom Joint Struggle Arc. Thus it’s best to watch up until episode #157 of the regular Black Clover anime before diving into the movie for it to make the most sense, but ultimately, it’s a side-story.

Some Black Clover Episodes Are Magical Gems

For its flaws on the offset as a Pierrot anime, Black Clover had some pretty great filler episodes, especially near the end and if the movie is counted into the fold. This includes Henry’s hideout hijinks in episode #125 when the Black Bulls see the drawbacks of Recombination Magic affecting their hideout.

Naruto Shippuden Filler List: Every Episode & Arc You Can Skip

Like any long-running anime Naruto: Shippuden has many filler episodes. Here’s which episodes can be skipped without missing anything vital.

Additional good moments include Petit Clover interludes for the Charmy fans with episodes like #82, and the lore dump of episodes #142-149 are practically unskippable. All in all, Black Clover’s filler episodes have multiple must watches, whether it’s returning to Hage in episode #131, and #135 is perfect for anybody who enjoyed the charm of the anime’s first “mixer” mini-arc.

Other Black Clover Episodes Are Born Unloved By Magic

Much like Asta himself, some Black Clover episodes seem to actively nullify the magic of other installments with dull recaps. While certain anime-canon episodes negate the filler designation by actually providing good character moments, others, like episode #134, are entirely skippable, while less egregious cases like #29 or #66 mostly recap major events, especially in early arcs.

This sort of filler in anime is becoming increasingly uncommon with productions tightening their focuses toward strictly adapting, and enhancing the source material. It likely means Black Clover season 2, following Pierrot’s new seasonal model, won’t resemble even its already-sparse filler before. It’ll truly be a thrilling time to be a fan when it arrives later in 2026.

With Black Clover Now Complete, Season 2 & Beyond Will Be Straight Gas

Readers who have stuck with Black Clover for its gorgeous highs and incomplete lows know what’s ahead for season 2 and beyond. The Spade Kingdom Raid arc is arguably Black Clover at its zenith, so when its initial 170-episode run bowed out, many were left frustrated, knowing things were about to be cranked up to 11. Asta’s most incredible visual feats yet appeared in this arc, and virtually all the story’s finest fights, including a killer clash featuring Magna Swing and some glorious moments ahead for Yuno.

To see Black Clover now reaping the benefits of Pierrot’s reformatted seasonal structure, getting the Thousand-Year Blood War treatment, is a thrilling prospect. It also likely means fleshing out the subsequent arcs, bringing Asta to a strange land everybody’s been hoping to see animated, and back home just as the most catastrophic calamity unfolds for the Clover Kingdom. It means a likely more detailed epilogue than the recent Black Clover finale, and with a seasonal approach in mind, it also means multiple years’ worth of content for the anime to eagerly anticipate.
