Donald Trump as James Bond: White House Posts Image of President as 007

Donald Trump has shared AI images on social media of himself dressed as the Pope and as a Christ-like figure healing a sick man.

Now Trump’s White House has extended his self-mythologizing tendencies to one of moviedom’s most hallowed figures: British super-spy James Bond.

On Saturday evening, the White House posted an image on social media of Trump as a silhouetted 007 in a faux movie poster, overlaid with text that says “Make America Great Again.” (Never mind that Bond works for the U.K. government’s MI6 foreign intelligence service and that alone would disqualify the 79-year-old Trump from getting the job.)

The White House was responding to the news — first reported by Variety — that Amazon MGM Studios recently kicked off auditions to find the next James Bond. The studio has tapped casting director Nina Gold (“Game of Thrones,” “The Force Awakens,” “The Crown”) to lead the process to anoint Daniel Craig’s successor. Variety also exclusively reported that Tom Francis, best known for appearing in a revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Boulevard,” is among the actors who have tried out for the part.

Internet users immediately mocked the White House’s Trump-as-Bond meme.

“License to Groom,” one X user posted with an image showing Jeffrey Epstein as 007, alluding to ties between Trump and the deceased sex offender. Another user shared an image of a potbellied Trump with the caption, “Pie Another Day.” One commenter uploaded an AI-generated picture of Trump as an obese James Bond holding a Big Mac instead of a gun, with the text “I Don’t Care About Your Finances” (a reference to the president’s recent remark that with regard to the Iran war, “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation”).

Amazon MGM Studios in February 2025 announced a deal with long-time Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, under which the studio gained creative control over the franchise.
