EXCLUSIVE: Adler & Associates Entertainment has picked up worldwide distribution rights to Indian independent feature The Zebras, directed by Kolkata-based filmmaker Aneek Chaudhuri.
The Los Angeles-based sales and distribution outfit will handle the film’s international sales outside North America focusing on curated theatrical circuits, streaming services and institutional screenings.
Described as a psychological drama, The Zebras is set in a near-future Kolkata where artificial intelligence is replacing real human creativity and emotions. The story follows a celebrated photographer who uses AI-generated images and fake online horror content to gain fame, unknowingly creating panic and confusion in the city.
At the same time, Sumehra, a struggling model whose career is collapsing because of AI, desperately tries to survive by continuing the same cycle of manipulation and illusion.
The film premiered at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in 2024 and was later released in Los Angeles by Double Exposure, which is handling North American distribution.
Produced under the banner of India’s Yulin Productions, the film has a cast headed by Sharib Hashmi (The Family Man), Priyanka Sarkar and Usha Banerjee.
Aneek Chaudhuri, who directed the film, said: “The Zebras was conceived as a deeply personal and philosophical work questioning the evolving relationship between humans and artificial intelligence. Finding a global home through Adler and Associates is meaningful because the film was always intended to travel beyond geographical and linguistic barriers.”
