Few manga releases are treated as outright events for a single chapter’s release. Much of this has to do with the reverence a particular series should realistically have before getting the red carpet treatment. But for Kentaro Miura’s Berserk, now under Studio Gaga and Kouji Mori’s care, every new chapter is seen as a gift to decades’ worth of readers, invested in the next steps of Guts’ long, painful journey. Deep into the Fantasia Arc, Berserk has brought Guts to utter rock bottom following Griffith’s abduction of Casca. Now, with the upcoming release of Berserk chapter #384 reported by previews from Young Animal’s upcoming issue, the series will return on June 12, 2026.
For those curious about the mainline Japanese release, this means an official release in the Western Hemisphere closer to June 11, although leaks will likely place that closer to Tuesday, June 9. The series will have taken precisely nine months to release its next chapter, and at a pivotal point, no less, as Guts surrenders himself to the mysterious stupa, where he appears to shut off the outside world and face his inner demons after his greatest recent failure. For readers around the world, in a very literal sense, Guts simply must come out of his shell soon, as he’s needed now more than ever.
Berserk Reportedly Set For Chapter #384 Return
With leaked copies and their scanned pages surfacing, including a preview of Berserk’s return set for June 12, intrepid Young Animal readers who got their hands on the magazine early made sure to spread the good news. While there is no formal announcement of such a return ahead of Friday in Japan, Berserk’s home magazine’s official release on May 22 will leave no room for doubt, with Berserk finally releasing a new, original chapter in print.
29 Years Later, Berserk’s 1997 Anime Finally Gets a Season 2, and the First Episode is Incredible
Berserk finally gets a new anime that continues where the classic 1997 season left off, and it is even better than the official series.
This has been one of the longest wait times since the new creative team took on Miura’s vision for the manga. Make no mistake — fans will understandably wait for years at a time if necessary, as the quality has proven to be consistent, but it couldn’t come at a worse time in many readers’ eyes. Guts is at one of the lowest points of his life at this point, and, under the care of “friendly” Kushans like Silat and Daiba, not even they are able to see inside the shrine where Guts’ procedure is happening. With Daiba suggesting all Guts can do is peer into himself, the chapter ends infamously on a cliffhanger as a clamshell forms and envelops him as the chapter ends.
The World Needs Berserk More Than Ever
While many manga continue to bow out in the present day, series like Berserk continue to hold strong and even maintain stellar quality decades after its 1989 debut. For many, this is an emotional investment, following a series in which its primary character wrestles with insurmountable grief, yet struggles on, eventually finding a new group of allies on whom he can rely once more. Seeing Guts so despondent, utterly unwilling to defend himself like recently against Rakshas, with Silat directly calling it out in chapter #380, is tough to see. The world’s in a rough spot, and to see ultimate struggler not push on or show a will to live, is nothing short of harrowing.
What will Guts see, sealed in the shrine, in the darkness…!?
It’s even more heartbreaking as Guts withdraws into himself while other characters like Farnese are making incredible strides, most recently channeling her od and being recognized for saving the day with her magic in chapter #381. This isn’t to say that there’s not plenty to celebrate about character development in Berserk, but to see its primary character so utterly broken following Casca being taken away to Falconia is incredibly heartwrenching. But now, as chapter #384’s release may finally be drawing near, fans will likely want to prepare for another long wait between chapters, soaking in every glorious panel of Berserk while waiting on news of its next thrilling return.
