EXCLUSIVE: Hulu is extending its return to Gilead with a Season 2 renewal of The Testaments, starring Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday and Ann Dowd. The pickup of The Handmaid’s Tale sequel, from creator Bruce Miller, MGM Television and 20th Television, comes eight episodes into its 10-episode freshman run amid a week-to-week ratings growth.
The Testaments debuted with three episodes on April 8, just a couple of weeks after the end of the film awards season that saw Infiniti transform from a virtual unknown to an award-winning movie star for her role in One Battle After Another.

The Testaments‘ fourth episode, which became available on April 15, saw a 20% viewership increase compared to the premiere after one day of streaming, with the series garnering over 11M hours streamed globally over its first eight days across Hulu and Disney+, according to the company.
By Episode 8, that episode’s views in its first day of release were up 76% from the premiere, and The Testaments‘ available episodes have amassed over 45M hours streamed globally to date.
Episode 9 of The Testaments, whose first season averages 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, is being released today, May 20, on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the US for bundle subscribers and on Disney+ internationally, with the season finale slated for May 27.

A sequel to the Emmy-winning The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments is a coming-of-age story set in Gilead. It follows young teens Agnes (Infiniti), dutiful and pious, and Daisy (Halliday), a new arrival and convert from beyond Gilead’s borders. As they navigate the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia’s (Dowd) elite preparatory school for future wives, a place where obedience is instilled brutally and always with divine justification, their bond becomes the catalyst that will upend their past, their present, and their future.
Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya and Kira Guloien also star. The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss returned for a guest appearance, reprising her role as June Osborn.
The Testaments was created by The Handmaid’s Tale creator Miller based on Margaret Atwood’s Booker Prize-winning novel. He serves as showrunner and executive produces alongside Warren Littlefield, Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Mike Barker, who directed the first three episodes and finale. Priscilla Porianda is a co-executive producer. The Testaments is produced by MGM Television and 20th Television.
