Elden Ring’s New Classes Have Gamers Split Over Official DLC

[

Elden Ring is one of the best games of the last decade or more, as FromSoftware’s unique formula met true open-world RPG gameplay in what ended up being quite a heady concoction. Since its initial release, we’ve had an equally good DLC, and a bunch of other releases around the game that really means it lives rent-free in the public consciousness.

One of those releases is the Tarnished Edition of the game, an all-in-one package that includes the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, as well as a bunch of other additions. Exclusive to the Switch 2, it looks like an impressive package, but fans aren’t exactly sure what to think about one of its most notable changes.

Over on Reddit, one user shared a post detailing how the Tarnished Edition of Elden Ring will add two new classes to proceedings, tentatively known as the Knight of Ides and Heavy Armored Knight. They come with their own new armor sets and potential weapon setups, and fans have been speculating on exactly what it’s all going to be like after they drop.

“The real content addition here is the new gear that comes with the new classes, plus possible new weapons. The rest is basically cosmetic, especially since the starting classes in ER are just for RP or quickstart purposes. I love ER, but I think the decision to make BOTH of the new classes a variant of ‘armored knight’ is also kinda uninspired. It’s a game built on wild classes and strange lands and the character creator now has 3 flavours of big fella in heavy armour,” one comment read.

While another added, “Milady my beloved, it would actually be really cool starting with that weapon, I might actually start a new game just because of that. I am not much of a NG+ fan so most of my DLC stuff is contained in the DLC. But the weapon is so fun.”

“I kinda wish they added a Dry Leaf Arts starter class instead. Then you could just start the game with one of the more unique/newer weapon types rather than waiting until you can get to Shadow of the Erdtree content,” a third said.

Nintendo Switch 2 players are eating particularly well if they also happen to be fans of FromSoftware games, with both this new Elden Ring release and The Duskbloods on the way this year. If both turn out to be as good as they’re hoping, it really could be a must-have platform for those who follow the developer closely.
