Omniscient Reader’s Horror Isekai Successor Is Finally Getting Its Own Webtoon

[

After an uninterrupted six-year-long run, Omniscient Reader recently concluded its first season, going on its first real hiatus since its launch. To the surprise of many, after 311 chapters, Omniscient Reader’s webtoon has barely reached the halfway point in its story, proving the series is truly unstoppable.

As far as the series’ writing, worldbuilding, and extensive incorporation of real-life mythologies into its lore are concerned, barely any other webtoons can compete with Omniscient Reader. That said, with the series on hiatus until Season 2 and a return window yet to be confirmed, fans of the series are on the hunt for something to fill the gap, and it just so happens that a successor to Omniscient Reader is already primed to make its debut.

Omniscient Reader’s Spooky Successor Is Here (But There’s A Catch)

KakaoPage’s official X handle announced on May 25, 2026, that the popular webnovel, Got Dropped into a Ghost Story, Still Gotta Work by Baek Deok-su, is getting its own webtoon. The webtoon is due to drop on KakaoPage on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 10:00 PM KST (Korea Standard Time) or 9:00 AM EST. Along with the announcement, KakaoPage has shared the cover art for the webtoon featuring the series’ protagonist, Kim Soleum, as well as a fun little preview of the first chapter, which is preceded by an animated HTML loading screen for full immersion.

The official announcement lists the release date as June 6 due to the late-night release.

Excitingly, Got Dropped into a Ghost Story’s webtoon is being produced by Carrotoon, the studio behind many gorgeous and successful otome isekai webtoons such as How to Win My Husband Over, Secret Lady, Who Made Me A Princess, regular dungeon fantasies like Welcome to the Dungeon Hotel, action series such as The Frozen Player Returns, and many more.

The Ultimate Solo Leveling Killer Teases 2027 Anime, And It Could Be Huge

While fans wait for an update on Season 3 of Solo Leveling, its biggest rival, Omniscienmt Reader, has locked down a 2027 anime release.

Furthermore, Got Dropped into a Ghost Story will be illustrated by syunnyun, the artist of I Failed to Out the Villain. Safe to say, the series will be stunning to look at, and though it may be a horror isekai, the series is perfect for fans of Omniscient Reader, but English-reading fans can’t read it just yet and it’s a major issue that needs to be addressed.

Got Dropped Into A Ghost Story Still Gotta Work Needs An English Release ASAP

Kim Soleum from Got Dropped into A Ghost Story

As its title implies, Got Dropped into a Ghost Story, Still Gotta Work sees its protagonist, Kim Soleum, transported into a world full of horror stories. Within this world, which started out as an online collective of user submissions and ghost stories, Kim Soleum is assigned to the Field Exploration Team of Daydream Inc., a faction that seeks to profit from these paranormal phenomena. Thus, Soleum is thrust into various ghost stories and tasked with surviving.

Luckily, cowardly though he may be, Soleum’s prior obsession with this wiki and its stories comes to his aid. The series features many different stories, including survival ones such as Omniscient Reader, and much like Kim Dokja, Soleum uses his familiarity with them to survive in this new paranormal world. The series also starts out very similarly to Omniscient Reader with the first ever ghost story Soleum is thrust into being set in a train.

All that said, Got Dropped Into A Ghost Story’s manhwa has unfortunately yet to announce an English release, which means it will be some time until fans can catch up on the series with ease. Adding to the disappointment, even the original web novel has yet to be licensed in English despite having accumulated 370 million views on KakaoPage, putting it just 100 million behind Solo Leveling’s webnovel.

Despite both manhwa and webnovels steadily gaining popularity outside of Korea, localizations continue to lag behind even for the genre’s most popular titles, and piracy will continue to be a problem until this is resolved.
