Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis

After its initial reveal at the 2025 Game Awards and subsequent teases with new screenshots, we finally got a full reveal of when and what to expect from Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis when it releases. Acting as a ground-up remake of the original Tomb Raider from 1996, it not only aims to bring the experience up to modern standards but also expands upon the story and gameplay to seamlessly connect with the more recent reboots.

Although the brand-new gameplay trailer showcased at this year’s State of Play did confirm the 2027 release date that had been rumored for some time now, it appears that the wait won’t be nearly as long as we feared.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Release Date

Despite having to wait another year before we can get our hands on Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, it’s arriving far earlier in the year than most of the next year’s biggest hits, as the upcoming remake is scheduled to drop on February 12, 2027.

Despite being heavily advertised by Sony alongside a PlayStation 5 tagline, Legacy of Atlantis is coming to a wide range of systems when it releases, as you’ll be able to play it on the Xbox Series S|X, PS5, Steam, and even the Nintendo Switch 2. Despite not being available for pre-order, the Switch 2 version will still be released on the same day as the other systems, which promises full optimization for the portable experience.

Speaking of which, the 2026 State of Play trailer also brought with it the official opening of Legacy of Atlantis‘ pre-orders to go alongside the new release date, which are available for order now alongside a few extra goodies for anyone who does.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Pre-Orders & Editions

Regardless of which edition of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis that you pre-order, you’ll be able to access Lara’s iconic Survivor Outfit right on release, although it is notable that all the cosmetic DLC from the pre-order bonus content or additional edition upgrades will be unlockable in-game without paying; you just won’t be able to use them right from the start of the story.

While the $59.99 USD Standard Edition doesn’t grant you any extra content unless you pre-order it ahead of release, the $69.99 Deluxe Edition of Legacy of Atlantis has a few extra incentives for the added price, which come in the form of 48-hour early launch access, the Parisian Fugitive Outfit early unlock, as well as the post-launch story DLC pack when it eventually launches.

Although it isn’t available for order yet, the Collector’s Edition for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will come in at $199.99 when it goes live for ordering, which includes all contnet available in the previous deluxe edition, while also offering the following physical rewards with your order:

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Cast & Gameplay Details

Although Legacy of Atlantis has still been somewhat vague when it comes to the story of Legacy of Atlantis so far, the fact that it’s a remake of the original game means there shouldn’t be too many surprises for the actual story of the game itself, which has already revealed some of the major characters you’ll encounter throughout Lara’s globe-trotting adventure.

Offering a brief glimpse of the same Jacqueline Natla who sets Lara off on her investigations into Atlantis in the first place, alongside the mercenary Larson that you’ll encounter throughout Lara’s search for ancient artifacts leading to the lost island of Atlantis. WhilePierre Dupont was notably absent from the trailer, it would be surprising for one of the other few main characters of the original to not make an appearance in the remake as well.

Acting as a way to bridge the gap between the original series and the newer Tomb Raider reboot trilogy, Legacy of Atlantis promises to offer a mix of modernized gameplay mechanics and the classic formula that made the series so popular in the first place.

If taking a simple glance at the massively reworked visuals weren’t enough, the cinematic cutscenes and combat encounters have been taken to a much grander scale from the original as well, despite following the same story beats and familiar locales. Of course, the ruins you’ll explore aren’t exactly empty either, as you’ll face off against ravenous bears, deadly jaguars, prehistoric dinosaurs, and even a few mythological creatures in between the occasional mercenary band.

Even while staying close to the movement systems and exploration of the original, Legacy of Atlantis already showcases several physics-based puzzles that were introduced in the newer games, alongside revamped versions of mechanics imported and upgraded straight from the original Tomb Raider itself, with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis offering plenty to look forward to for fans of the series both new and old.
