June 8 will be a big day for Xbox Game Pass, as yet another title will come to the service on its release day. It will be one of nine games confirmed for Game Pass’s June lineup, and one of three day-one offerings.
Solarpunk is coming to Xbox Game Pass immediately upon launch on June 8. The survival crafting game from independent developer Cyberwave has been long-awaited because of its eponymous genre setting. You take advantage of solar, wind, and hydro energy on an archipelago of floating islands which you can travel between in an airship. Solarpunk will be available on the Ultimate and PC Game Pass tiers, per the XBOX Wire announcement.
On June 8, Solarpunk will release on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation 5. It should go without saying that the latter does not support its Game Pass launch. Solarpunk will also come to Nintendo Switch 2 at a later time, but an exact date has not yet been pinned down. A major attraction will likely be the game’s co-op support, which lets up to four players join together in one game. Each player can build and pilot their own airship with seemingly no restrictions.
Solarpunk takes its title and theme from an aesthetic genre of the same name. Solarpunk works are defined by a harmonious existence with nature, often highlighting renewable energy and anti-colonial efforts. Solarpunk is well within this vein, and even seems to embrace the genre’s deeper position as antithetical to dystopic fiction or cyberpunk. It boasts rather robust base-building mechanics, including a power grid system, and leans into its sustainability messaging with ranching and farming features.
There are nine games coming to Game Pass in June so far – more are likely to be revealed later in the month. Solarpunk is one of three that are day-one releases onto the subscription service, with the other two being Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions on June 11 and Junkster on June 16. Another major day-one release was also announced recently when it was revealed that Dune: Awakening is coming to Game Pass when it releases on consoles in September.
Solarpunk‘s blend of Stardew Valley and Outer Wilds has the potential to be a big hit, and is likely to draw genre fans who hop from one survival crafting game to the next. Especially with co-op, the game has broad appeal, and a day-one release onto Xbox Game Pass will ensure it gets into the hands of a lot of players. It’ll be hard to restist trying out Solarpunk on release day when it has airships and is available at no extra cost.
