Adam Buxton Readies ‘Successpod’ Podcast For Audible

EXCLUSIVE: Comedian and actor Adam Buxton will attempt to combat his mid-life crisis and existential anxiety in an Audible podcast series.

Successpod will see the Hot Fuzz actor, who forms one half a comedy duo with director Joe Cornish, exploring what it takes to be a ‘success’ in the modern world. Mindhouse Studios, the podcast arm of Louis Theroux’s Mindhouse, is producing, and the show launches on June 11.

Across six eps, guests including his long-time friend Theroux will attempt to help Buxton establish if he can be successful in a world of influencers, achievement metrics, looksmaxxing and visual optimisation.

Episode one will see Romesh Ranganathan give advice on staying relevant, while Theroux appears in episode two discussing whether Buxton should be more ‘doomy’ to compete in the modern podcast space. Make That Movie star Sam Campbell will offer views on the relationship of creativity to success, and comedian and actress Jess Knappett encourages Buxton to be more open-minded about the metaphysical and paranormal world to seem cooler. Absolutely Fabulous star Kathy Burke will discuss wellness, before the final episode sees Guz Khan dispensing nuggets of advice on conspiracy theories, wealth and other life matters.

As with Buxton’s long-running podcast, The Adam Buxton Podcast, episodes will feature sketches, songs and conversations with his dog, Rosie.

“It’s been a lot of fun to do a purely comedic show/podcast again,” said Buxton. “It felt like I had a lot of silliness that needed to get out, though that could also be a middle-aged gut issue. Successpod has enabled me to do all my favourite things in one package – record sketches with stupid voices, laugh with friends, make ridiculous music and talk to my dog-friend Rosie. I hope it cheers up around 100 people, but not more. It’s not good to get too successful.”

Successpod is the latest Audible Original-branded comedy podcast, following on from the likes of rom The Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast with Steve Coogan, Mel & Sue Should Know By Now and The Last Laugh: The Last One Laughing Podcast hosted by Roisin Conaty.
