Amazon has just launched a new Audible deal ahead of Prime Day for both new and returning subscribers. From now until July 15, you can get the first three months of an Audible Standard plan for only $0.99. You’ll get your first credit immediately and two additional credits as the months go on. That essentially lets you listen to the first three Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobooks for only $1, no Amazon Prime membership necessary.
And if you’ve never listened to an audiobook before, I highly recommend starting with that particular series. Dungeon Crawler Carl is one of the best audiobooks right now thanks to a pretty wild story and some incredible narration from Jeff Hays. Once you start listening, you’ll see why the series continues to dominate the Audible bestsellers list week after week.
Why Is Dungeon Crawler Carl Worth Your Audible Credits?
Audible has the largest audiobook in the world and you can use your credits on any book within it, so what makes Dungeon Crawler Carl so special? While it’s true that the Dungeon Crawler Carl books themselves are quite good (It’s a story about a man and talking cat on an intergalactic gameshow), the Author himself has praised narrator Jeff Hays for all of the details he brings to the audio.
“Jeff Hays here is one of the few people that’s really started leaning into the voices and a little bit of sound effects, and I really like that,” Dinniman said in a 2025 interview at SDCC, “I’m very happy that more and more narrators are embracing that.”
Matt Dinniman’s crazy characters lend themselves beautifully to audio and Jeff Hays does an incredible job making each voice and accent unique. Although the first audiobook didn’t come out until Dinniman was already working on book four, many fans of the series have praised the audiobooks as being actually better than the written versions themselves. This is something that Matt Dinniman has seemingly started working into his writing by going into more depth about accents as he describes new NPCs and crawlers through book eight.
Try the Wandering Inn for a Longer LitRPG Listen
Although I’d personally recommend the Dungeon Crawler Carl books first, the other LitRPG series absolutely worth your Audible credits is The Wandering Inn. At its heart, it is a story about a girl named Erin Solstice who finds herself magically pulled into a world with a video game-like leveling system. After surviving some terrifying encounters, she stumbles upon an old abandoned Inn and finds herself suddenly leveling up as an Innkeeper. It’s one of the best fantasy audiobooks available and the first book is absolutely massive. You’ll get over 48 hours of story for a single credit. That’s roughly four times as long as most books.
