With the Halo franchise celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, it would make sense that the beloved sci-fi series would make an appearance at this weekend’s Summer Game Fest celebrations.
We may have already known that Halo Studios have been hard at work on development for Halo: Combat Evolved, a remake of the very first Halo installment, but it was this weekend that fans were finally treated to a release date.
“Halo: Campaign Evolved is a faithful yet modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign,” reads the official synopsis. “Experience the original story rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics, refined controls, plus a brand-new three-mission adventure featuring the Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. A broader arsenal of weapons, vehicles, enemies, and gameplay-modifying ‘Skulls’ – optional modifiers that change combat in fun and challenging ways – add fresh tactics and endless replayability.”
With Halo: Combat Evolved just around the corner, and set to arrive on PlayStation for the first ever time, fans are understandably excited, but as pointed out by one Twitter/X user, there is yet another reason to look forward to the remake.
“Honestly, very pleasantly surprised with the showing from Halo today,” they shared. “Johnson prequel campaign looks f**king awesome, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes.” However, it was a screenshot taken from the trailer that gained the most traction, as it shows a familiar enemy from a previous Halo installment.
Known for their appearance in Halo 4, it seems as though the Elites are set to make a return in Halo: Combat Evolved, with the Twitter/X user pointing out that they can be seen in test tubes in the recent trailer. If true, they are a formidable opponent indeed, marking the highest ranking race in the covenant.
As you can imagine, the potential return of an iconic Halo 4 enemy has got fans feeling the excitement, and they took to the comments to share their thoughts.
“Absolutely sick and twisted if they make the 4-5 Covenant designs the results of failed experiments,” one user shared. However, another fan thought differently, adding, “Thought they could’ve been Covenant Prelates, as an ultimate attempt to stop Chief.”
As for another Twitter/X user, they were left feeling disappointed for one main reason. “The game looks amazing graphically, and I’m excited for the new missions. But also disappointed at the lack of any word on an actual new mainline Halo game. Maybe Halo Studios is saving it for their own event again, but still would’ve liked to see even the simplest teaser today.”
It is true that Halo Studios is yet to reveal any information about a potential Halo 7, but as mentioned, there are still plenty of major game events to take place throughout 2026, so hopefully, we will learn more about the future of the beloved sci-fi franchise soon.
