Netflix Is Releasing 5-Part Sci-Fi Series With Titus Welliver In Just 2 Weeks

One of Titus Welliver‘s underseen roles will soon be getting a bigger spotlight on Netflix.

Although he’s likely best known for his long run as Harry Bosch in Prime Video’s long-running franchise, which now includes the spinoff Ballard, Welliver has built a quietly impressive legacy on the small screen. That legacy includes his portrayal of Silas Adams on the acclaimed HBO drama Deadwood, in addition to his stints on fan-favorite series like Lost and Sons of Anarchy.

Titus Welliver’s 8 Best TV Characters (Number 1 Is Undisputed)

Titus Welliver has become a TV crime specialist over the past 3 decades, with his best roles ranging from romantic heroes to outright villains.

A lesser-known Welliver project will soon be making its way to audiences, with all five seasons and 56 episodes of the post-apocalyptic sci-fi The Last Ship coming to Netflix on June 22. The news comes from What’s on Netflix, which keeps track of the new releases on the streamer, and notes that this is the first time that The Last Ship will be available on the platform.

The Last Ship‘s availability on Netflix comes as part of a continuing licensing strategy between Warner Bros. Television, which produced the mid-2010s show, and Netflix. Other recent examples include the TBS comedy Search Party and the TNT police procedural The Closer, all of which fall under the broader WB umbrella.

The Last Ship is another TNT Original. It ran from 2014 to 2018, loosely based on the novel of the same name by William Brinkley. It tells the story of what happens when a global pandemic has wiped out 80% of the world’s population. It’s up to the crew of an unaffected U.S. Navy destroyer to navigate the uncertainty of this new and perilous landscape to try to come up with a cure that can save humanity.

The late Eric Dane leads the adaptation as Tom Chandler, the former commanding officer of the USS Nathan James. The large ensemble also features Rhona Mitra, Adam Baldwin, Charles Parnell, Travis Van Winkle, Marissa Neitling, Christina Elmore, Jocko Sims, John Pyper-Ferguson, Bridget Regan, Bren Foster, Fay Masterson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and future Shōgun lead Hiroyuki Sanada.

Welliver played Thorwald in the first two seasons of the series, which was created by Hank Steinberg and counted Michael Bay among the executive producing team. Thorwald played a former police detective who turned into a resistance leader in the new world, appearing in the final two episodes of season 1 and early on in season 2.

Welliver shares a memorable scene with Oscar nominee Alfre Woodard, who also recurred in The Last Ship. It was well-received during its run, with the second season being a particular highlight. But it may just get a Netflix bump. There will also be opportunities to see Welliver pop up elsewhere. The actor is a part of the gang drama The Westies, which drops in July, and he’ll return as Harry Bosch in Ballard.
