The deal is less impressive for shoppers in the UK — the Lumix G97 with 12-60mm lens costs £649 at Amazon (was £749). That’s still excellent value, but if price is your main concern, then there are decent alternatives worth considering, such as the Canon EOS R50 for £659 at Amazon (was £900). Conversely, the deals for the Canon camera are less impressive in the US.

In its favor, the EOS R50 has a larger 24MP APS-C sensor and superb autofocus. However, lens choice is pretty limited. On the other hand, the Lumix G97 — despite being a refresh of the much older Lumix G95 / G90 — still very much packs a punch, with decent 20MP micro four thirds sensor, superb ergonomics and a huge choice of affordable lenses. Trust me, it’s a fabulous first camera.
